Here's the setup I think you should get:

http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/9546/rigsetuplg6.jpg

After rebates, it's about $1632.

Add on:

$240: Intel E8400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819115037 (out of stock right now, which is why it's not in the pic)

$109 (after rebate): Logitech G51 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6836121012

Comes out to a rough estimate of $1989, after rebates.

The case comes with a PSU and that PSU will last you for years and years. The Thermaltake V1 CPU cooler I have there is also AMAZING. I have it, and I love it. And Vista...don't mind what the Vista haters say. It's amazing.
Isn't x38 pretty pointless? I'd switch to a P35 and spend what would be saved for another two gigs of that sweet, sweet Random Access Food for Vista.

the fact tht the 9600 is coming out tomoz doesnt matter what so ever as the 8800 in most cases out performs it ...and the 9800 is for people with a higher budget thn omni ...either way it dont matter.....omni is just going to benefit from the cheaper thn normal 8800's

Apparentely, the X38 OCs better. And with a powerful CPU like that...you'd want a good OCer.

No shit its slower by 5-10%. Its considered a mid ranged card and it will be cheaper.

Ah dammit, spelling error. I always say PCI xprees instead of express. The E in front is just not needed.

Because your English fails. And actually, the 'E' is needed. Think Professor Xavier, and you'll know why.

We're drowning in a deluge of x-this and x-that marketing. I'm glad it's PCI-e.

not really... you could get much better cpu for that price. And samsung monitor.

hint: It is Intel cpu.

edit: commie's suggestion is pretty good.

Although I would change mobo to Asus P5E X38 or Maximus Formula...
No you cant get a better processor for $184 than the X2 6000+...... and Omnideath never stated an Intel/AMD preference.......

Therefore.........

It does NOT outperform a E6550. did you even bother checking the CPU charts?

Get rid of the creative card... tis a waste of money. Use the onboard audio - it's more than adequate.
Ditch the 64bit Vista (it will devour 2GB of memory), he probably has a copy of Window XP on a disc already.
Use that money to upgrade to a 8800 GTX.
And, if possible up the GB to 3GB of dual channel to 2x1GB + 2x512mb, for a total 3GB. This will work with the 768mb GTX's memory (with 1-8800 GTX that would leave after the PCI-E bus ate that 768mb, a max addressable memory map of 3.2GB in 32bit Windows XP).

Ooh, I see you edited 64bit Vista to 4GB, ditch it anyways... XP performance is still better. He can skip the Vista platform and when Windows 7 comes out he can ignore that, potential resource hog, too (unless DX10 is a must have, and/or if DX11 is a must have, if they even bother putting DX11 in Windows 7).
