These people can "pack" elsewhere.  Why would they suddenly lose their cool because they are on campus?

I'm sorry, did I say that? No, I didn't. Are you really saying people don't kill other people in the heat of the moment? If so, I'd come out of that cave you've been living in. It happens ALL the time. Person A is arguing with Person B, Person A pisses Person B off to his breaking point, Person B grabs a nearby knife and stabs Person A.

gg.
What part of 'not a good idea' and 'lose his cool' put together in those two sentences could somebody possibly take for actually meaning something else? How about this: Person A is arguing with Person B, Person A pisses Person B off to his breaking point, Person B leaves the room.

Happens way more often, my good cave-dwelling friend.
It sure isn't me that's the one who's living in a cave, buddy. You've honestly never heard of someone losing their cool and killing someone? Wow. You're truly oblivious to the world. If you honestly think that every person's going to just leave the room after a big argument, you're horribly, horribly, mistaken. Sometimes, people will just throw fists. You don't think they're gonna pull out their gun if they have one? People don't think of the consequences in the heat of the moment. Hence being called "the heat of the moment".

Fig1Sorry, but the world doesn't have the same temper as you. Some people will go to drastic measures when someone pushes them enough.
Ah, now who's putting words into whose mouth?

Unfortunately, I still don't agree with you. It is possible to bonk someone upside the head in a fit of anger, yell at them more loudly or (far more commonly, both in and out of campus) just drop the argument or leave without reaching into your back pocket for a .38 to use for threats or hole punching. Arguments of this caliber are even more often avoided. This idea you seem to carry about that people with guns are just going to use them at every opportunity is nothing short of absurd, and best observed on the freeway during casual conversation in Steve Martin's 'L.A. Story.'

The funny thing about these kind of arguments is that on one hand, people on one side tell you that the chances that you'll ever have to defend yourself are slim and on the other hand, people from that very same side will tell you that people just so commonly enough lose their cool and act out violently with whatever blunt object or projectile lobber is within shortest grasping distance of their stubbly little fingers.

And while you're stuck on the matter of dwellings, allow me to inform you that human shelter nowadays is commonly consists of artificial caves (what do you think your box, box cluster or megaboxplex really is?). Not much has changed since one million B.C., huh.

What, now I can't get in an argument without shooting someone? Flawed logic.
Now back to origin, I believe that was a perfectly justified ^sarcastic response without the subsequent squirminess, but I mean it.

Aww, that's cute. You actually took the time out of your day to make a graph about that. That's wonderful.

Not once, NOT ONCE did I say EVERY time someone loses their cool they're going to kill someone. But even the most mentally stable person can be pushed to the limit, and when they know they have a handgun, shoot the person without thinking of the consequences. I said people will throw fists sometimes, yes. But others will shoot the person. Not everyone, but one person is bound to. Even if they don't shoot the person, other people will atleast draw the gun out and threaten the person. Sorry, this isn't the Wild West anymore.

You're putting words in MY mouth now. You're doing the exact same thing that you're accusing me of. Kinda funny, actually.

You're pretty much failing in every attempt to counter-argue with me. gg.

Would you like me to outline my statement in an 8th grade manner? Obviously that might be the only way of reaching you at this point: If Person A has a gun, and they're arguing with Person B, even while Person A is one of the most mentally stable people in the world, Person B can push them far enough to draw out their gun and shoot them. It doesn't happen always, but if a whole bunch of people on Campus have guns, it's more than likely going to happen with atleast one person.

There was a story back a while ago on my local news that some guy who legally bought a gun and was considered mentally stable shot his best friend over a SPORTS BET. Do you think if he DIDN'T have a gun, his friend would be six feet under? He wouldn't. If he saw a knife, chances are the same thing would've happened. Some people simply lose their cool. Hell, I have myself. The same logic goes with sex. Guy fucks girl, girl gets pregnant without thinking of what's going to happen, girl has abortion to fix problem.

Good for them. It's the only solution for a country in your situation, as fucked up as it is, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yeah, but Cho was also fucked up in the head.

I'm saying it could happen to you, me, Mek...anyone who posts in this thread...anyone on earth. If you have a gun and you get SO pissed off at a person in an argument...there's a good chance you might just do something drastic. I know I have. Not as serious as shooting someone, but I've done things I regret when I was infuriated.

1) Because it certainly takes more than five seconds to draw a circle and line in paintbrush. Then again, I have no idea where you get your benchmarks from, so it's altogether possible.
2) Read and reread the requote. Eventually you'll understand it as a retort (though on hindsight, an ORLY owl would've fit better) to:

4) Your argument (but it could happen! it could happen!) is like saying that there's a zillion asteroids in a hundred undefined solar systems. There's no concrete figures to go off of, so I am reduced taking shots at your insults in lieu of some Egonian social equation with which I could possibly make you see how corny your stance appears from a carrier's position.
5) Don't strain yourself. Going over same ground now. Person A has a gun and they're arguing with Person B. Person A is mentally stable. Person B can push them far enough to draw a gun and shoot him. Granted to begin with, in case you didn't think you made yourself obvious enough. More likely? What, you mean how absolutely nobody carries onto campus since it's <dramatic gerbil> illegal? Especially with all these copycat shooters? I flick my wrist in disgust at that very notion.
6) And here is where you get into an infinite loop. That kind story can just as easily be reversed in the favor of the CCWer (in a tired old example that is likewise self-loathingly countered by the anti-gunners with parables of their own, ad nauseum) fending off a couple of berserko (leik teh colers i did maisleff!) knifey-sticky-types on his way to a bus stop. I certainly wouldn't be up to getting my precious non-commando limbs chopped to ribbons in an unwanted melee.
7) Here's a 'solution' to your last sentence: ban sex-for-fun.

As annoying as this trade-off could actually be, you don't find my 'otherwise-normal-but-potentially-evil-killer' arse running around the yard half-naked blasting at the air like a Yosemite-Sam reject in deject frustration. And, just in case you feel up to flexing that indomitable, witty 'want-me-to-put-that-in-8th-grade-English?' repartee, allow me to remind you that you were the one who started in with the 'come-out-of-your-cave' business to begin with.

You're so fucking incredibly naive that it's not even worth nitpicking at your post. Really, it's not. Obviously you don't understand that some people lose their cool and if they have a WEAPON ON THEM, there is a chance they will use it.
