I have an LG DVD recorder. Whenever there is a need to access it (ie Opening My Computer, loading a game, when I first put in a disk, etc.) my sound totally stops for a few seconds while it initially reads the disk, but once the initial read is done everything returns to normal. It's really annoying when I'm talking to someone in TS or Vent and go to put in my game disk because I can't hear anything until it stops reading the disk. I can still move the mouse cursor, but if I was talking at the time, my talk light stays on in TS even when I'm not pressing the talk button.

Also, when I open My Computer and it reads the ROM to see what's in there, I can't click on anything (eg can't select items in device manager list) during the initial read. And to make it more complicated, it doesn't seem to do it every time. Also, the drive spins for ages after I insert the disk, even though it's not reading it - according to the light on the drive anyway. Doesn't seem to matter what disk it is...

The ROM audio is not plugged into my on board sound (only power and IDE cable), and I'm using a USB headset anyway. I'm assuming it's a ROM driver issue, but the automatic driver update says a better one can't be found. It's not a big deal, just inconvenient. Any ideas?

My systems specs are here, although I've just put in a Zalman 600W PSU (but I had the problem before that). I'm using XP Home SP2.

1. Use Win XP Professional :-)
2. Flash Firmware of CDROM
3. Flash Bios of Mainboard
4. Check IDE-cabling: RW/RAM is master, CD/ROMs are Slave (NO CableSelect-Config please)
5. Clean the Laser in CDROM
6. Buy new CD-ROM :-)
7. Press&Hold the LEFT SHIFT-Button while inserting Media (=No PCFriendly)
8. Connect audio from CD-Rom to Mainboard
9. CLEAN your PC using CCleaner, Spybot S&D, Clear c:\win\temp and c:\documents\user\local..\temp
    see www.filehippo.com
10. run DEFRAG
11. Do not use USB-Speaker and/or USB-Microphones
12. Change Value in BIOS: Operating-System-PNP-Support (from yes to no v.v.)
This will affect interrupts from components
12a. Check/Change Interrupts used by IDE an the # used by Audio. try to change/capture one of it manually in Bios

this is not the right order, this is brainstorming :-)

I think it is based on the USB-Headset (!). Change to Cinch-Headset
