I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

Work for a mining company in Western Australia. Apparently you get gargantuan benefits and pay of well over $100k.

All for driving a truck.

Note: Anecdotal. Don't take me on my word.

What kind of truck.. Is it one of those trucks you see on Modern Marvles?

I'm currently working as studio director for ****** in Ukraine, and my HR manager comes to me yesterday with the latest training prices for management courses from a local HR training firm.

3 days.  1 person.  $5000.  Classes typically run 20 to 30 people.  Typically taught by some one-shot wonder "inspirational schmuck".

Next up he gives me the temp price for getting an experienced programmer...

Programmer pay - $800/month here.  Our price to the agency - $3400/month.  And there's a waiting list.

We both made a pact right then and there that we're definitely in the wrong fucking business.  Keep in mind, this is in Ukraine, I can't even imagine what the price and mark-up would be in Western Europe or US.

Now I wanna be an "inspirational schmuck" when I grow up.

I can neither confirm nor deny our actual existance until the company stock-holders have been informed in public disclosure (should be Wednesday next week I'm told, French corporate lawyers work like a cross between glacial drift and the three blind mice - as stated herein after therewith as pecuniation of the contractated services as performed heretofore by PERFORMER, on the other hand...shoot me).

Computer game writers are another bunch of racketeers while we're on the topic.  When I was a designer, even with good writing skills, we weren't allowed to do any of the actual in-game voice scripting or writing.  They outsourced instead for $20,000 on my last game (same guy got $50,000 on the current project) to a guy that is a college professor.

The guy farms the work out to students for good grades or peanuts, and banks the difference.  The quality of the stuff we got back looked like it took about 2 hours to pound out, and wasn't even sent through a basic MS Word grammar check...not to mention was racist and offensive to the ears when read aloud by bad voice actors.  $50,000 (about 7% of the project budget) for offensive crap that we're forced to use because we spent the money on it, and the upper management thinks he's a god...and its not even his own work.  Cartoon voice actors working by the day also make quite a bit of bank, but I don't think the work is very steady.
