I'm thinking of finally upgrading from XP Pro to Windows Ultimate and I'm just wondering (From actual users) if it's even worth doing yet. Have there been patches released to stop Vista from preventing certain high-end hardware (X-Fi) from working yet? Any other general assessment (Since it's been released for a while now) would be helpful.
Works pretty much fine for me.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Great for most things, but sucks if you play a lot of different/new games as you realise most games need you to download some vista patches or perform some vista specific fixes.
No.

Grab a cheap OEM disc and find out. If it doesn't work, go back to your XP.
I'd like to add that I held off for a while because many said that the OS was crap. I eventually picked it up, and have yet to have any issues with it.
I would never even consider returning to shitty XP.

Depends on your computer. Apart from DX10 support and some fancy graphics, there's really no need to upgrade "just for upgrading".
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Not worth it considering new games still work with xp.
Vista is awesome, so stable
I haven't had a problem with Vista whatsoever.

It's great. The only Vista that has not worked for me was ... PIRATED!
So get a legal copy
This has been my favorite OS so far - including XP and 2000.

Great OS. Not a single problem. Get it!
Mine works fine and SP1 came out on windows update for me yesterday. Slightly faster but otherwise no noticeable difference.

Once you have the hang of it, it's generally okay.
(except the famous display driver errors with NVIDIA cards, but they are in the past)HudsonFalcon wrote:

Thanks for all the responses.
It's not really much of an improvement over XP, there are some neat features but nothing big.
Not much reason to upgrade, no reasons to say no to it.

even pirated works great. no problems here. people only be hatin cuz they jealous.
The one thing i keep coming back to is dropping framerates. My rig "can handle" vista just fine, but I'm not willing to give up any gaming performance for desktop aesthetics's. Can anyone say that any game they play runs faster in Vista?
