Ok so I currently have an Nvidia GeForce 7600GS. My PC died so a guy is repairing it, and I asked for an Nvidia GeForce 8600GT.

When my friend heard this, he said it's only like a 5% increase in performance, and I should save a bit more and get an Nvidia GeForce 8800GT.

Is this true? I'm not much of a PC expert.

Should I save the money or is it worth it. (Since it would take forever to get the money for the 8800GT, and I can't get some of the sw33t new games coming out).

If you plan on playing games, save up for the 8800GT... If you are over 16 it should not be hard to reach....

The 8600 is no a particularly fast card

It doesn't..

As far as I know, you can't run two different cards in SLi yet...

Why did you ask us here if you already bought it ?

I heard it's a good deal better then the 7600GS and I should get it, since I had the money. I did. And some guys I know say it'll be worth it.

And based on this...http://www.nvidia.com/object/graphics_c … y_now.html it should be a good upgrade.

Rule number one when buying stuff: Take every advice you get from the people making/selling it with a grain of salt..

Here is a proper comparison:

It is better, yeah,,, but I'd still go with a 8800GT which is pretty cheap...

Err, yeah... OK lol.

It's ~$50 cheaper and about 5% slower than an 8800GT but it fails?

The 8600 however does fail horribly and the 8800GT is one of the best value cards you can get.

Where are these 9600 vs 88GT benchmarks?  If that's true I might just get one.
