I have Vista Home Premium, with 2 gigs of RAM, all my games run great at the settings I expect from my 8600GT, however, I will soon be getting a 8800GT, is their any reason I should get another two gigs of RAM, or will it not be much of a difference?

If things run fine at the mo no need to get more ram because of a gfx crd upgrade

but just cuz you think things are cool with 2 dosnt mean they wouldnt be beter with 4 (Vista is a memory hog!)

Prefetch?

im on Vista Ultimate 64 Bit and I love the 4gb ram, i can go up to 70% sometimes... so Id definately rather have my 4GB rather than 2GB

I might kill myself if I had 2GB lol

Ram is super cheap right now, so why not?

Helps maps to load faster and run better.

It'll be worth it in a few years from now.
I see alot of PC's in flyers in my newspaper that are coming with 3GB's of RAM.

any computer that is actually intended for GAMING, not just "home" use will probably come with 4GB

I think in a few years we will be looking at DDR3

If you have more RAM, vista will take more of advantage of it making it faster. So i recommend 4 gigs. Because with 2 gigs vista take lttle because it know you need it but it makes it slower.

I have two GB with vista and its not enough, can't even play BF2 smoothly, when I could easily play it smooth with XP.

I had the exact same problem with vista! Now everything is smooth with 4gigs

edit: And ddr2 ram is very cheap these days, just get it!

yes it is necessary

even if you have XP and you have 4 gigs, still comes out as 3.5gig, thats more than 2

RAM is so cheap now I'm tempted to order another 2x2 gigs to fill up the slots and get 8! ...but that wouldn't do much at all.
4 GB of RAM isn't completely necessary, though, but definitely a great thing to have. Might as well do it.

having more memory isn't always better.  in XP it's rare you'd use more than 2 gig so 4 (or 3.5) wouldn't help. In vista while it's not absolutely necessary it is definitely worth it with the price of ram these days, I bought a 2 x 2 gig set of ddr2 1000 for 115.

What are benefits of Vista other than DirectX 10? I'm thinking about getting it, my school has ultimate for $30.00

not much from what i've seen of it.  I has more visual effects and such but that's no biggie.  If your pc isn't up snuff it can make you mad but I have never noticed it being any slower than when i used XP.  The main reason I went vista is soon things will be migrating that way and there have been plenty of rumors i've seen of some games not running on XP (without hacks that is) and with the 4 gig of memory i bought i needed a 64 bit os to fully use it so i saw no reason to pay for xp pro 64 when Vista is the future.

If your running Vista then yes. 4GB of memory is most definitely necessary.

Vista (Premium) uses 1.5 GB of RAM just sitting doing nothing. Add games that you play (with their own memory requirements) and even 2GB is starting to look insufficient.

2 GB: Sometimes not enough
4 GB: Almost never full

--> 3 GB: Perfect (and dualchannel if 2x512 and 2x1024)
