Turn the power supply off, then on (the little switch on the back)

Oh, and indeed dear.

You could have just fucked just about every component in your PC.

But, most likely, PSU or mobo.

I read the OP too fast and though it said,

How exactly did you not notice the PC was running if you disconnected a fan?

Yeah, how stupid can you be!? Wasn't the fan like running?  And when your PC is on the CPU and PSU fans are running as well....

Ur mobo is dead meat. PSU probably too. There might be some other damage as well but it is impossible to tell. If your mobo is tough like rambo, it might have survived.

u think just the psu and/or the mobo?
i think the psu works but i hope that went dead and not the mobo cuz its a pain to disconnect everything
especially the zalman...

something similar happened to my mobo/psu a year or so again when the power went out and my surge protector was not turned to protect for some reason (fkin siblings, i know it was one of them). just the mobo/psu fried, but it was only one connection, and i supaglued it together and worked fine for another 8months...

Probably the same way you unplug a fan while the entire computer is running...

Oh two of my PSUs blew up during the summer because of my old mobo. You can believe it is freaking scary to hear BAMMMMMMMMMMMMM next to your head, smell smoke and notice that screen went black.... I was playing something really focused when that happened... I was like for few minutes.

lol.

Actually, I do that all the time :s . Unplug fans while the computer is running, but it's connected to a fan control bay.  Probably a dumb thing to do, but I have never had problems.

On the other hand, I try to avoid pulling wires off the mobo while it's running.
