Phetal - Any news on your brother mate. I bet I'm not the only one here who is thinking of him even when I'm no where near a computer screen.
My thoughts remain with you and your family, keep your chin up for him.
yeah man; i hope everything is alright.
HEY, Sorry for not updating this earlier, but my brother came home yesterday from the hospital. He was diagnosed with Gittleman's syndrome... or however it's spelled. His kidneys don't deal with potassium as they should, and he suffers from a serious deficiency. For the rest of his life, he'll have to take 9 huge potassium pills a day - the equivalent of eating one banana every 10 minutes for the rest of his life.
Thank you all so much for your thoughts... it was a very hard stretch of days for all of us and it means a lot that a bunch of strangers would even take a minute out of their day to think positive thoughts about my brother.
Thanks again... and sorry for not keeping you updated!

Life can seem like a right shit at times and throws some awful cards at you to deal with and all of this will make you all stronger.
He'll take his pill's and hopefully continue life like the rest of his class, or even the next young lad his age stood next to him.
You'll know the difference between the two but others won't.
Good on ya for sharing it with us, I know how much that helps.
This place will never ever appriciate how much it has helped me with grief over the last 30 months.
Damn, imagine eating a banana every ten minutes.djphetal wrote:

I'm glad to hear he's home with you.
Its odd how it wasnt noticable earlier
That is some encouraging news. I pray he continues this road to a full recovery.
Taking 9 pills a day sucks. It's better than having something worse wrong i guess.
But not a bad deal considering the shape he was in.

Another little brother update!
He went to Portland again for tests. Levels of Potassium are high... not high enough to lower his dosage, but high enough not to seriously worry.
I was talking to him and realized that he was pretty shaken by the whole thing. He's not a great student, but his grades, which were A's and B's had dropped to D's and F's, he said he felt "floaty" and that not a lot made sense to him. I never really considered that he knew how close to death he was. The rest of us did, but I always just assumed that he was optimistic.
He's had a ton of support though, from family and friends. His pediatrician is a family friend and she's been helpful beyond belief.
Just wanted to thank you guys again for your help. Aside from sending your best wishes to him, you really helped me out as well. Just knowing that other people knew about it helped.

Glad to hear everything's back on track
Must've been quite a scare.
