Simple: If you change the key, you get reset.

Back up your key, or if you're lucky and you don't do anything at the screen, you can still find the datafile (called 'mpdata.corrupt')

By the way, the 'hacking, cheating' argument is truly idiotic. Stats are clientside.

I kinda do similar thing, I once in a while just restart my stats. So, I have multiple backups of my profile dating quite back.

Yeah, your stats arent stored on some server like in bf2, they are stored on your computer, he probably played on some weird mod server and it registered weird with his stats. Stop with your "oh he got reset he must be hacking" bs.

Silly people, if it resets your stats it makes a backup of your old file, if you fix your CD key and then put your old stats back you'll be fine.

The old stats are in the same directory as the new ones: players\profile\name\mpdata.something

edit: to fix your CD key, start up CoD4 (regardless of your profile) and enter in the options menu
