I used to be quite a good long-distance runner, I was in my school's team for it etc.. although that was a long time ago, basically I'm sick of wasting time on the PC (except on BF2s <3) and want to just 'do' (already fapped) something.

I've got a treadmill in my house, been using that every night for just over a week now, just small distances atm. I could also start training outside as I have a decent path that leads through a fuck long wood behind my house.
I do really want to get fitter, so I will actually take your excellent advice which I'm sure some of you will give

So, do any of you have any general tips? Any distance runners who have a set routine I could start? Just things like that
Oh and, I've heard mixed thought on treadmills -  some say that actually training/running outside has far better results, some say it produces the same results, what are your thoughts on this?

Cheers in advance.

Hey, I have a training sheet for the Irish Armys An Cosantóir, basically it trains you to run 10k in 12 weeks.

There is 3 Stages of Training you can do.

I don't know what your fitness level is now, but if you're quite fit, I'd suggest the Intermediate.

#Beginners
#Intermediate
#Advanced

Please pick one you would like to hear, cause it's alot of writing and I don't wanna write all the info on each section down(take me ages).

Ok bear with me

EDIT OMFG! i just hit something that deleted it ALL OMFG! ok lets see what can I do to get it up!

FFS!

3 days a week, 2 times long runs of 5-15 km, 1 time sprint. < this works.

I rather jog outside instead of on tredmills.

Getting tired is not an issue. Burning legs is not an issue. You stop when you collapse!

on a more serious note, try looking up for some trainin schedules on the internets.

It's better for your feet/legs too. We're not really designed to run along perfect flat surfaces etc.. if you get what I mean, the subtle variation when running in the real world is what makes the difference

At least that's what I was told

No in the sense of that, I'm talking the very subtle variations that you don't get with a tread mill

I was also running for my school (1km distance).

Running outside is always better than inside. Fresh air, better ground to run on, you make more natural steps than when running inside.
Get a decent pair of snickers first. Ask a friend if he wants to join you. Run at night, its more enjoyable and peaceful + less smog.
Always stretch first and afterwards 2.

Yes that my suggestion, find someone to run (or ride) with. i find long distance riding is really good for fitness even if ur a runner...

personally i ride/run with my older brother which is really good cuz were always trying to beat each other and push each other alot harder than if we were by ourselves.

Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to find anyone to run with other than my dog, but he's company enough

ty for the input guys. I think I'm going to start with short runs and work my way up - yes/no?

I sell sport equipment so yes i can give some input.

Asics and Mizuno are the best, Nike is just a bit behind them but Adidas and Rebook suck (for running anyway).

I have these: http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/pro … D=29980529
Last year model was blue (mine) this year's are red (dunno why theres a pic of yellow Skylons).
But i don't recommend them if you don't have enough money to buy a new pair of these every month. The sole it not completely rubberized so the foam wont last long.

So basically any pair from Asics (if you have wide feet) or Mizuno will be good. If you want to go with Nike, get Pegasus or Structure.

Simon, Fartlek.

5 Min jog, 1 min walk, 5 min jog, 30 sec sprint, 2 min jog, 30 sec sprint, 1 min walk.

(Or do it for distances)

This will build up stamina and make you moe efficient at respirating.

When I did timed excercises I used to make my self a audio file and listen it while Im doing it.
Basically you take couple of good "running" songs and combine them in one long song. Than you put signals in it at correct times. You can, for example, stop the music few seconds with maybe a beeping tone. That will be your que. Or you can record your self saying what the next step is, for ex. "switch to full sprint" than when your done "switch to walking" etc. You can do it in couple of minutes and its much better than constantly looking at your stopwatch.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ <--- free audio editing software easy as pie to use

and you will need an mp3 coder...
http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php

You have no excuses now !!!!!!! RUN FOOL !!!!

Variation is the key to keep it fun. 1 keyrule your long runs are gonna be slooooow your short runs are gonna be fast most people do it wrong goes to slow on the short and to fast on the long.

And run in the nature it´s a wonderful feeling rushing through the woods on a small dirty path. There´s a new routes to explore everywhere just put your shoes on and run wherever you want.

And a tip don´t start to hard it takes time for your muscles to adapt your stamina will increase way faster than your body can keep up with.
So skip the Hills and time trial exercises in the beginning they will most likely do you more harm then good save them for later
