Does anyone here have one of these boards and know if you can safely run with 4 sticks of memory?

I have heard yes from some and no from others.

I have BIOS version 0608 if that helps determine yes or no.

I want to buy 2 more sticks of RAM but dont want to waste the money if I cant use them.

Thanx for any info that gets posted.

4 x DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR2 800/667/533/ Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture
Click on 'QVL' over at the right for its Qualified Vendors List - which also gives exact models of what RAM works and what doesn't.

yeah i already knew all that stuff but even on their tech forums people complain about having memory faults due to them running all 4 DIMMS at one time.

just wanted some personal stories of it working or not working.

thanx though

I've seen numerous instances where it hasn't worked properly. Things like not being able to run at full speed or having to run the memory at very high voltage to get the system to POST. That board is pretty shockingly bad when it comes to memory.

It's likely they'll work. But probably not optimally.

I have one w/ 4 sticks of RAM, works fine for me. My cousins has an issue with theirs, but just sent it back and got a new one.

I had one 650i and one 650i SLi board (evga and asus). I had major problems when using 4 sticks of A-DATA Vitesta 800mhz ram.
I looked at the QVL and the ram was on the list but it clearly didn't work like it should be. !!!
I had to give my ram a lot voltage to even get in windows, most times even that didn't help. Really bad post problems and sometimes couldn't even get in BIOS. (10 BSODs while trying to get in windows first time, random BSOD -> reboots, got 5 BSODs with windows install...)
I could run memtest without any errors (ram works great, still using the sticks with my upgraded rig) but the real life was like hell.

Now, after getting Intel X38 mobo, I haven't had any BSOD.

And tbh, I would stay away from nforce mobos if you don't NEED Sli. If SLi is something you really NEED, then gl. Some of the boards work just great, but when you get one that doesn't it is a mobo from hell.

and proto, you can try. It may work just fine or it doesn't. I wish you good luck and I hope you get it working.

I am just gonna stay with my 2 gigs (2x1gig) and spend the extra money on a huge monitor.

If you have XP the 4 gigs are not necessarily needed. Vista sure would like them.

Why don't you just get two sticks of 2GB?

thats not a bad idea

I had the same board, it had issues but it is resolved when you go into the bios and set your timings and voltages explicitly. Then it works

edit: I was using Corasir XMS (same that was mentioned in the QVL, ending in 6400C4)

should I also manually set the advanced memory timings or just the first set?

I also am using the corsair XMS 800x6400 but 2 gigs have 5-5-5-12 timing and the other set I have has 4-4-4-12

what should i set the timings/volatages at?

Look up the memory to get the appropriate voltages (the ones i was using were 2.1).

I'm not sure best way to advise using mix and match. As I guess I would say take timings of the slowest set. Not sure about the risk if the suggested voltages were different.

ok so now the memory sticks I want are even cheaper and i am thinking about getting them.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … _-20145590

Will I even see a performance increase using windows xp home with 4 gigs?

They are the same timings as well   5-5-5-12

I already have my timings and volatges manually set.
when I put in the new memory will I need to reset the timings or should I be able to leave it as it is?

I also would like to ask if for some reason the new sticks do make my system unstable,
would I be able to fix it by just removing them or is it possible that they could cause my system to remain unstable even after being removed?

thank you for any replies.
