I need a free clock to use on my other window, so I can see the time without alt-tabbing
and how do I make XFire *contact online* alerts pop up on my other screen?

Go to Options > General Settings. It should be under balloon tips, then check the checkbox next to "when a friend logs on or off"

Xfire also has a clock in game that you can get to stay there permanently. When you are in a game bring up xfire in game. The clock should be in the top right corner of your screen. To make it stay there, you need to pin it, just click the little button that looks like a thumbtack.
