Okay, im kind of annoyed, I was going to buy an 8800 for christmas but I decided to wait for the 9 series, I did, and its just this 9600 card is apparently crap, and I know the 8600 was crap too, so I have a bad feeling about the x600 series...

I was looking at the 8800GTX, and then the 8800GT's came out, and now I have the 9 series...

and whats confusing me is that people say that the older cards are better (Shaders, clock speed etc)

So could someone help me with this? Im not retarded with technology, I just dont really get the whole clock speed shaders etc, I know what DX10 is and all

So could someone just give this shit to me simply?

Possibly order the 8800GTX, 8800GT, 9600, 9800(yet to come I guess) in order from BEST GRAPHICS PROCESSING POWER to the LEAST GRAPHICS PROCESSING POWER

Maybe just explain in simple terms between the cards and how they are "Changing" and how the Newer cards are different from the old series?

Nah, I would say that the 8800GS comes after the 9600GT.

So more or less in the middle, depending on the game, swapping with the 9600. Is it safe to assume there wouldn't be a huge difference between the two cards for the various games? If I was to pick one of the two, what's the best choice?

It really depends on the game which one is the best, overall its whats DeathUnlimited said, but sometimes the G92 8800GTS 512MB takes the lead. But tbh, the 9600GT performs close to the 8800GT. So you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference.

If you want to get a gfx card now, get a 8800GT or GTS 512MB. 9800 series are rebranded 8800 cards that offer pretty much no performance increase over the 8800 G92 series.

edit: 8800GTX however, is better at high res + AA+AF. IF you can get it really cheap like I did, and play with ridiculously high AA+AF, it is a card worth consideration.
But a 8800GTS 512MB will do just great. Now go order one.

It doesn't, 9600GT is even a tad faster in some games. *Searches for benchmarks*

It are only two games, but it does proof my point. In Crysis the 9600GT performs just under the 8800GT and in World in Conflict it performed just slightly better than the 8800GT.

9600gt is successor of 8600GT(S). It was never ment to compete 8800GT, 9600gt is a cheap mainstream card. Put AA+AF on and the 9600GT gets smoked by 8800GT really hard. 9600gt has cutted G92 core (G94) so you can think a second and I think you already know which one of them is faster.

edit: 9800GT is 8800GT OC. so 9600gt definately is slower than 8800GT.

this is one example. 9600GT has 64 SP vs. 112 SP 8800GT. from tweaktown.
