I'm planning on buying a laptop next month, as my current one is a piece of shit to be envied by all other pieces of shit. Having checked out a digital mall with my friends earlier, I found a laptop that's within my budget (RM5000) and has surprising specs. Since it's my first time buying a computer for myself, I'd like to know what you guys think about it.

Whats the total price?

Looks fine, but it all depends on what you're going to use it for.

Personally, 17in is a little big for an everyday traveler, like going to class and back. But if you'll be using it at home or at the office, it'll do fine.

Its pretty powerful too. You'll probably be able to play a good deal of the games that have been put out in recent years, but I wouldn't bet on the newer ones like Crysis unless you want to bring your new baby into the world crying and begging for mercy. BF2 should have no prob.

However, if it just going to be a word processor/ internet machine, you could def finitely save some money by pulling back some.

You're wrong. I take my 17" laptop with my to class all the time, you just have to get used to that little bit of weight.
The upsides really outweigh the downsides. Numpad + proper screen size + place to put your palms = win.

What type of hard drive is it? SATA I, or SATA II? What speed is it? 7200 rpm or 5400 rpm? What type of processor is it? Santa Rosa, or the new Penryn 45 nanometer made for less power usage?

In a 320 gig size HD, I'm pretty certain its a 5400rpm drive. If you plan to game on it, work with Photoshop and use video editing software, I wouldn't go with a 5400 rpm drive. Take a 200 gig 7200rpm SATA II drive, its 20-30% faster then SATA I respectable to drive speed. (I almost guarantee SATA I comes with this Acer you're looking at).

$1500 for this laptop is to much by the way.
