it only happened last night. They're probably still analyzing that. I am surprised though, that they'd leave the place empty at night. I would have thought that in that location, you would be able to recruit 24/7...

well most likely it was the CIA, but who knows? maybe this time it was a civilian? muslim? maybe a hippy...

Quite funny that I had to text my mate in New York and let him know what had happened ...I'm guessing from that that it wasn't a very big explosion!

Actually from what I gather recruitment centers have less hours than a Bank.

i think it's cause recruiters are often out talking to families of prospective soldiers, out doing the business, or out driving people to MEPS

What the fuck is up with these protesters?  I'm against war most of the time, but even I know this kind of act is sheer hypocrisy....

Given the escalating protests over military recruitment, it seems inevitable that people would bomb those who seek to protect the nation and fight our enemies. This morning, unknown attackers bombed a Times Square military recruitment office. Thankfully, the office and the building that housed it was closed at the time of attack:

An explosive device damaged a military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, and police blocked off the area to investigate.

    The explosive device caused minor damage, and no one was injured, police said. The explosion shattered a glass entryway. …

    Witnesses staying at a hotel in the area said they heard a “big bang” and could feel the building shake. A large plume of smoke was also visible after the explosion, they said.

Melanie Morgan just wrote about the escalating attacks on military recruiters a week ago. She lists several cities where recruitment centers have been attacked in varying degrees, usually limited to vandalism and threats of violence. These operations have not hurt military recruiting at all.

Police now say that the bomb was “roughly similar” to two other bombings in NYC, at the Mexican and British consulates. They have some clear video of the incident as well: Officials said that in today’s attack, a man bundled in a gray hooded jacket or sweatshirt and wearing a backpack was seen riding a bicycle around the recruiting station and acting suspiciously moments before the explosion. Video footage from a surveillance camera showed a bicyclist dismounting, approaching the recruitment center, then returning to the bike and riding away before the explosion occurs.


Previous incident:Attackers throw rocks, chain themselves to doors, punch and kick, spray paint graffiti, break windows, yell, and generally vandalize recruiting centers across the nation in repeated attacks.


The eight Congressional Representatives from New York City all received a copy of a picture of the targeted office, showing deliberate premeditated intent to hit the recruiting center. They also received a letter, but it contained no threat:

Eight House Democrats were mailed a letter and photo of a Times Square recruiting station in Manhattan before it was bombed this morning, according to House insiders.

    The letter did not contain any specific threats against the lawmakers or the site, but the U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI are now investigating the matter.
