My solution to the Israel - Palestine problem.

Let's face it, getting Israel and Palestine to play nice isn't going to be an easy task. There is so much deep-rooted hatred that peace between these two is laughable...until now. The best alliances are often economic ones. That is why I believe that Israel and Palestine need to build a bullet train to connect their two states. A bullet train, traditional or maglev, that is designed, engineered, and constructed by Israel and Palestine cooperatively would forge a peaceful economic alliance between the two states. Also, I believe that this train will be significant in that it connects Israel and Palestine both physically and symbolically. Furthermore, the improved transit speeds between the two states will do wonders for both economies.

So, the question up for debate is this: How significant do you think this bullet train will be in uniting Israel and Palestine. Also, when do you think construction on this train will begin?

That's possible, but this is a trust-building exercise.

You can't build on something that doesn't exist. There is no reason either of them to even consider placing their trust in the other. Neither country would even consider a joint effort of any kind.

They are sending their children to war against each other; why would they build a bullet train together? Is it just me, or does this idea seem waaay the heck out there? What makes you think that two nations that have loathed each other for thousands of years will resolve their differences by building a bullet train?

A better start would be a fence on the 1967 green line, and each side agrees to stay behind it - settlements and rockets included.

Religion must the the biggest reason to these conflics. And we know what religious people can do (suicide attacks etc.).

Affluence makes people lazy and apathetic. If the Israeli's really wanted peace and security they should shower the Palestinians with money and luxuries!

I always thought that could work. Instead of trains build homes. Build homes on the barren lands and employee the Pali's to build there own settlements.

Well if Israel removed their settlements and drew back to the 1967 boarders thus giving the Palestinians a relatively fair and viable state, a bullet train might prove useful. But first there has to be a Palestinian state. One that the Palestinians will approve as well, not just the one US and Israel want.
