join em?  Show me where we cut off heads and burn peoples bodies...or hang them from bridges as a form of torture?
Ok Mr. "Gov do no wrong"

Yep, they don't do anything beyond tickling with a scratchy feather...

Besides, the shit you just posted was killing not torture.  Equally reprehensibly to be sure but that don't mean the US is all about puppies and other cuddly things.

The US is only going down a slippery slope once it condones water torture. If a new method is developed, and found to be more "persuasive" what's to stop it from occuring? It gets results. Who cares if the guy in question goes through hell?
The CIA director has banned waterboarding. That's why it hasn't been done in over five years.

The CIA director can be replaced just as easily as the last. The legislation can remain much longer. And water torture was an example. Their are currently other methods still in use, that the veto blocked from also becoming illegal.

Torturing, apart from being a catalyst for the brutalizing effect and eroding the moral base of your society, is pointless. The information gained is way too unreliable to stand up to anything - especially a court.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

Bush is a complete asshole I hope that he gets procecuted for crimes against the constitution and the murder of a thousand or more US marines for the purpose of oil and "fighting terrorism."  Bush is the closest we've gotten to fascism.  Republicans are fascists, they regard the state as more important than the people.

Tourturing is piopntless, because there's no way of knowing if what your victim says is true or not.  Furthermore, it's inhumane.

Hey kid....wait till you grow up and see how the world really works.

There ARE people who plot everyday to kill us.

And wars have ALWAYS been fought over two basic and common things, religion (ideology) and resources.

You enjoy riding in a car?  You use electricity?  Water?  Buy food at the market?   thought so

You've got it backwards, big guy. Democrats regard the state as more important than the people.

And Bush is pretty fucking far from what the Republican party actually stands for.

We both know thats total crap - we can go round this loop again if you like.
Gitmo - numerous examples of torture besides waterboarding.
Such as? Proven? Put up or shut up.

Dilbert_X wrote:

Abu Ghraib - Routine torture and 'softening up', sometimes to death, carried out by the military and CIA - Remember the photos, dead bodies?
Remember the prosecutions of the people who did it? It wasn't CIA, it was MPs who were poorly trained and given no ROE and who operated against stated policy...on their own as individuals.

Dilbert_X wrote:

Bagram Air base - People tortured to death, maimed, mutilated etc. - proven.
Again, individuals acting against policy...prosecutions resulted.

Dilbert_X wrote:

Various other proven examples of torture at various US facilities around the world, plus the extensive network of torture sites the US sends its suspects to via rendition.
Since it's proven, I suppose you have credible sources to back up your claims?

Dilbert_X wrote:

Honestly, I don't know why you repeat things you know to be untrue - Are you a CIA plant or what?
Funny, I was about to say the same thing about you...except maybe you're an AQ plant. The difference between you and me is that if you provide some credible proof, I'll change my opinion. You, on the other hand...

Bollocks it is.

Several of the Gitmo inmates who have been released have released statements about how they were subjected to various forms of torture.
Because they have no ulterior motive for claiming torture...like international pressure to release their jihad brothers.

The fact that you would believe what they have to say without applying any critical thought to it simply because it supports your preconceived notion of what is or is not happening is either sad or laughable...or both.

The only proven "torture" that has happened outside of the Abu Ghraib incident was the waterboarding of three internationally-recognized AQ major players. Three. In seven years. And not done by the military, but by the CIA. No proven incidents of torture at Club Gitmo, which is run by the military.
That is nonsense. Maybe only 3 incidents in Gitmo itself. But there have been way more than 3 rendition flights.

How about Benyam Mohammed, Ahmed Agiza and Muhammad al-Zery, for example?
Read the highlighted portion. And from all reporting, those three didn't happen at Gitmo.

A rendition flight, as troubling as the concept is, is not torture.

As to the three you mentioned, can't see anything that says the US did anything to them other than incarcerate them.

For all you people here who scream "innocent until proven guilty" you seem to be willing to accept fairly flimsy evidence that the US government is guilty of things, while ignoring evidence of the opposite. Why not apply the same criteria to both sides of the argument?

Nevermind...I think I already know the answer to that one.
