I play a game named kalonline, nothing special, just a mmorpg I play with friends (private server).

Anyway, today there was a small update and after the update I couldn't get the game to run anymore.
My friends didn't have any problems, so I tried patching the game again....didnt work.
Removed the game, installed it again, patched it....nothing.

This is what I get:

I checked windows system32....I have the file called dsound.dll.

Hope someone knows    thanks...

lol wut! Shouldn't say that if you have admin rights...

Try deleting the old file first.

You can't just replace system files.

And do your friends have Vista too?

No they don't.

But why can't I replace system files...the whole point of being admin is you can right ?

[edit]
it was tagged "read only" trying to make that undone now

For some reason it has to go through a load of bullshit to do so....

Then I guess the game is trying to use a function that's been removed in Vista. I suggest you file a bug report.

Replacing the DLL won't help, and replacing it with the XP equivalent will very likely screw you over.
And no, even as admin you can't replace vital system files. They're protected at installation, unless you turn off that protecting through nLite or equivalents.
There are ways to get around it, but I wouldn't suggest trying if you're inexperienced.

Sometimes you can put the .dll files to the game folder where all the .dll files are or just where the .exe is. But in this case it might be game bug and no way to fix it.

I have fixed all my .dll problems by downloading the files and putting them in game folder or system32.

I'll try putting the .dll in the game folder.

I found the server I play on has a tech department to on it's forum, hoping they know

Thanks for your help so far

Yes, they could've made a mistake in the update. Updates change things, you see.

Bump

One of the head admins of the server I play on doesn't even have the dll that gives me the error.

Is vista just completely retarded or does anyone know whats going on ?
