I just never understood your(easterners) irrational hatred of trees and nice things.
This would be John Day and Ontario, right, not Bend? I have over 40 trees on my half-acre lot.
I has mountain(s) in colorado
I has mountain(s) in Montana.

Safeway does blow. I worked there for about 3 weeks as a bagger.

I live by one and I thought that might be a good idea as a job but it looks really fucking boring.

I work for a grocery store...  I work in the Deli, so I'm handling a lot of food.
We don't staff a lot of people, because we don't make a ton of money, because we kinda suck compared to other options people have...
SO, when I call in sick, like I did today, my manager says "No, you need to come in..."
And I say "I can't handle food, I think I might have the flu..."
And she says "Well, we can't replace you, nobody else can come in... they would be working overtime [which of course, our cheap ass store can't afford]..."
And I say "well, I can't handle food... I could get someone sick"
She says "Well take some Tylenol and come in... if you don't look sick then they won't know you made them sick."

..........................

I then told her that about 50 percent of the people I serve food to are 50 or older, and that giving an older person the flu could potentially kill them.

Then she told me to stay home.

Honestly, what the fuck?
And last week, in talking to a coworker who works in the bakery, I learned that she was forced to come into work when she had a serious lung infection. Only a trip to the ICU finally got her out of work.

This is absolutely disgusting to me.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry for the rant... but also consider it a warning...
ya, its easier said than done, but i think you need to report your supervisor both internally and to some authority, then quit your job and find a business for which you can be proud. if your supervisor gets fired before you do, then maybe u can skip the final step. good luck, that shit is heinous.

I used to work for a certain car dealership in the service department as the cashier. I was REQUIRED to take a 30 minute lunch break everyday. If I didn't they (or their time clock system) would take that time off of my check, no matter what. Of course, I was the only cashier at night, so I couldn't take breaks. If I walked away from my desk, I'd get in serious shit with the owner/managers. Business was non-stop and nobody buy me knew how to do my job. I probably worked there for 6-10 months before I got sick of it and got a new job. The service manager asked me why I was leaving at the time, but I didn't tell him about the countless labor laws they broke there. He was quickly canned after I left.
