The question is simple. If Al Qaeda formed a political wing, decommissioned their arms and pursued a political not violent path, would the USA/UK meet with them? Would you let Bin Laden in to your country for talks?

This got me thinking;
Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness is leading a delegation to the United States for St Patrick's Day celebrations at the White House.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7295840.stm

Martin McGuinness, one time IRA top commander and responsible for authorizing many acts of "terrorism" never mind the fact he has personally pulled the trigger himself, is now leading a delegation to Washington to meet G.W.B Co. He is welcomed with open arms as he has now denounced terrorism.
Himself and Gerry Adams passed freely to the USA in the past while both still on the IRA army council ordering bombings & murder, to raise funds for the Republican "cause"(minus a short ban after 9/11), essentially gathering moneys to buy explosives and guns used to kill and maim here and on Main Land Britain.
All is forgiven it seams, can Osama bin Laden expect the same in say......10 years?

Somehow I doubt it.

I'm sure had McGuinness been blowing up Americans they would not so readily have let him into their country.

I highly doubt that Bin Laden would form Al Qaeda into a political group. Theyd get massacred by the CIA, FBI etc etc in 3 seconds if they went to the USA.

No, they'd still arrest him as soon as they get the chance. And rightly so, just because I kill someone and then say I won't kill anyone else, doesn't mean I'll be let off.

If it weren't for that pesky ~4,000 American civilians he killed...eh. Still no.

In his manifesto Bin Laden laid out several declaration wherein he defined why he was opposed to us, what our crimes were, etc. War is politics by other means. Osama declared war on us. He had religious, financial and cultural objections to America.

I would also call the Oklahoma bombing by Timothy McVeigh a political act. It was a protest against what he perceived to be a murder and cover up  in the deaths of the Branch Davidians. After it had wound it's way through the courts and systematically the evidence was squashed, the guilty cops forgiven and promoted and the surviving Davidians were given ridiculous long sentences, he did what some considered a patriotic thing and brought war against the government. It was politics. Unfortunately, many innocents perished as a results of his, and the United States governments crimes. But it was still politics.

Bin Laden and company consider it legitimate politics to attack civilian targets because from their point of view that is the only kind of war they can wage. They will never stand and fight or face our A 10 Warthogs in trenches. Why would they?

They need simply continue to do what they are doing; keep a level of paranoia such that we will spend our fortunes chasing shadows and we eventually go broke. If you read his manifesto ( ladens ) where he talks about waging finacial war on America you will see that, just like George Bush he announced his intentions for war, how it was going to be waged, and then set out and did it.  It seems to me that this war is going exactly how they planned it in that our government has crushed civil liberties, exploded in size, shape and spending and that we have come across largely looking like assholes. In this political game, Osama Bin Laden is winning. He doesn't care as much about the military war because winning it was never part of the plan. Getting America to destroy itself from within is the plan, and it is working.

I can recognize Osama as a good military leader while still wanting his head on a pike pole hanging from the White House walls. I can recognize george Bush and his croonies as being a real clear and present danger while still maintaining a deep and profound love for my country.

I would say, the more you love America, the angrier you should be right now with the open borders, devalued currency and financial rape via borrowed money for idiotic wars that will cost my childrens children.

We tried something like this with Arafat tbh. I think Middle Easterners with grievances deserve a better representative of them.

you cant compare the IRA and AQ.  Apples and oranges.   AQ got their start, not to free themselves from some colonial power, but to go into a wholly different country and wage a jihad against the godless soviet invasion of afghanistan.  AQ was started and funded by a rich saud who doesnt give a fuck about politics.  Its the afterlife they care about and what motivates them.

Why do you have troops there anyway?
