Well its all over the news in Iceland, we don't have allot of these here in Iceland but here's the story;

An eleven year old girl with Asperger syndrome locked herself in a storage room at school and a teacher opens the door and is about to go in the room but the eleven ear old slams it in her face, it is said that it was not her intention to slam the teacher but "she should have known the risk in slamming doors",  and the teacher is now suffering a permanent headache and less responsive or something like that.

Well teacher tried to sue the school cause she claimed the door wasn't safe enough, she lost that one so she went for the mother of the elven year old girl that has Asperger syndrome.

She gets fucking $170,000 from the mother and it makes me sick.

Should the mother have had to pay the teacher that amount cause of her 11 year old girls action that had Aspergers?

EDIT; 170,000 - 170k Dollars, to be clear.

well i though you mean just 170 because of the period and i was like wtf? but then i remember and lol'd. But anyway that is completely rediculous, i absolutely detest those people with no spine that must take people to court to win money they dont deserve. Suck up your damn problems and move the fuck on. Yes most of the time things are your own fault, not the schools for lack of a 'safe door'. fail

Thats bullshit. Id fucking spit in that teachers face for suing a mother with a child who has a mental disability for the childs actions.

Absolutly disgusting that mother probably has a heavy enough load caring for the poor kid.

Aspergers aint THAT bad. A relative of mine has it. Hes a pretty decent guy, just doesnt socialize much; get him to talk about something that interests him.  Sometimes i think he was socially deprived as a child, and his parents just needed an excuse to recieve govt. funds.

But there are different levels of severity...

170 Dollars? Or 170,000?

EDIT: Nevermind. It's 170,000. Can we use the right symbol ( , ) next time.

That's dumb anyways, maybe the kid should be more mature.

I don't agree with how sue happy people seem to be these days. However, the child is at fault for the teachers suffering. Mentally handicapped or not, the parents are responsible for their children's actions.

In Germany they use . for separating thousands and for ordinal numbers (like 3rd = 3.), and commas for decimal places.  I guess it's the same for most of western europe (excluding Britain).

I'm used to this system; One million dollars: 1.000.000,00 - Only a comma for cents.

Yea when I went to Europe I saw some cars for sale and it was like 10.000 Euros. I was liek 'awww schweeet!'. But then mum and dad explained the Euro thing
Also, ITT: We're all Texans

Back on topic, that sucks. But was it a case of the kid doing it by themselves of was it that disease/ w/e?

It's pretty obvious to take a .000 and translate it to ,000, especially when dealing with matters as pricey as lawsuits.

Despite the fact that I'm from the US, I like that system better. Looks neater, but unfortunately, I'd never get away with using it.

Or did you? It's been a fad for parents of kids who aren't outright social to smack them with that label from two hours of online research and to find doctors who will be willing to agree.

Yea like Dyslexia, whoever has a hard time reading is just stamped as Dyslexic in Iceland, I think I have more friends with Dyslexia than ones who don't. Kids don't read anything these days so of course they hesitate when reading at school cause they aren't used to it.

I bet if I spent money on some therapist or whoever diagnoses you I could get the Dyslexia excuse. I've seen two persons with actual Dyslexia and they showed me what Dyslexia really meant!

I went to a fucked up placement where we had atleast one kid with a textbook case of mental fuck-ups. She did have aspergers running away from social situations, wearing that same pink coat, even in summer! Goddamn i'll never forget her fat black face, God what a bitch she was sometimes. It was fun to fuck with her and get away with it.

There was this kid at school with something wrong with him. He'd start a fight for the slightest thing because nobody ever hit him back. He was 5 years younger than me and my mates and wouldn't hesitate to start hitting one of us when we're all together. I hated that kid with a passion, so close to just landing one in his face and maybe stopping him from starting shit again.

Never did though, wouldn't be able to take the constant piss taking from my mates.

The amount is excessive.  The fact that she was able to sue isn't.

She should've simply had the family pay for her medical expenses.

Asperger's or not, the girl assaulted the teacher.  Even if it was by accident, somebody has to pay for it.

That's bullshit. The girl didn't "assault" the teacher. She closed a fucking door. Where was the intent to harm, from a disabled child?

That money would have been more useful helping the child through her life, and the problems she faces with aspergers. Not making this fucking teacher enjoy an early retirement.

Life's a bitch, but when you injure someone, you gotta pay up.  That's just how the world works.  It wouldn't matter if the kid was normal either.

Your assessment of the finances may be true, but the child isn't owed anything from society.  If you injure someone, however, you then owe him/her something.

No. No. Shut the fuck up.

There's no excuse that justifies this, If the U.S. wants to make a law that could actually help people, they should put an end to these rediculous fucking lawsuits.

Everyone's so god damn greedy and they know they can get free shit.

The only thing worse is when people claim they have post tramatic stress..

I'll agree that there should be firmer limits in how much can be gained from sue cases and what you can sue for, but this kid did injure her teacher.   There are occupational hazards, and then there are kids that just often prove to be more trouble than they're worth.  This kid is leaning in the latter direction.

It was an accident though. How come now days accidents cant just happen? It has to be someones fault.

Would you sue the company that made that door because it hit you?
What about suing the lumber yard that supplied the wood to the company that built it?
Oh wait, i know, Sue the people who owned the land that grew the tree that the lumber company sold to the company that built the door.

That's real fair.

What needs to happen is eliminate all lawsuits over accidental things, cause i can't think of one justifiable case that happened from an accident.
