Kinda getting on my nerves now, a lot of people going off in their inane way about stopping medical progress and halting the advance in PQL because:

'Oh no! If we do that we'll overpopulate the world yada yada yada'

Let me give you a hint.

Advances in medicine and human development will probably be the BEST thing to slow population growth.

To expand:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/27/Population_growth_rate_world.PNG/800px-Population_growth_rate_world.PNG
The numbers refer to % growth in population
See a pattern?

What the world needs are sensible population policies to balance population growth. Right now essentially all of Europe is facing social collapse in a few decades because of an overaging population (because of low or negative popgrowth). Meanwhile, African population is exploding because of its entry intto Stage 2 of the Demographic Transition Model

What the world doesn't need is retarded policies that will kill of hundreds of millions for no good reason.

Edit. If I didn't make this clear in the OP, I did in a later post.

Okay, I think a lot of people have missed the point.

The explosion in population is NOT coming from the developed nations. The nations with with high life expectancy, near-zero infant mortality and good medical care have very slowly expanding, flat or even declining populations.

Compare that to the, to be blunt, shitholes of the world. They are experiencing a massive rise in population. If you actually looked at the demographic transition model you should see that this is exactly what is expected in developing, Stage-2 nations. Thus, any points about abortions, birth control etc. etc. are pointless because we are dealing with developing countries.

The best way to stablize population growth in this countries is to get them out of Stage 2 and into Stage 3 and finally Stage 4. The only way to do that is for them to develop. Lots.

It's not that there is an overpopulation crisis and we're in big trouble. I think that for most (myself included), it's just starting to get a little crowded and we could use some space. Of course, that involves moving to a smaller area that isn't as populated, yet more people are doing that, and pretty soon that small town will be bustling.

I really don't think we'll ever have an overpopulation problem. Mother Nature will take care of that. We cure diseases, more are found. Things get too crowded, people die. No biggie, just how nature works.

People don't settle down or have kids. Sometimes there's a gender imbalance (men killed in wars or some dumbass policy like China's). Singaporeans supposedly work so much they don't have time for kids. The gov't is allowing more nudity & porn to try to "spark" the population growth. Apparently Russia is so short on good men they have a program now where they're trying to import Indian men. Women marrying Indians can get a $10K grant from the government. The Indian guys I work with are all excited about it, but are too afraid of upsetting their parents to marry outside of their race.

Why can the world population grow to such incredible numbers?  Oil and screwing with natural cycles to produce more food.  We've gone from 1.5 billion to almost 7 billion people in 100 years because of medical advances, oil, and agricultural advances.  Once we can't fuel the machines that farm  and more produce, cities like New York.. how are you going to feed that many people?  That's why I'm worried about overpopulation.  Plus, people bitch about the price of oil.  Everything gets more expensive when you have more people competing for the same or even less of a product.. what do you expect.

It's only a matter of time before the fertile soils that have allowed us to prosper become depraved of nutrients and cannot produce like they used to.  We use fertilizers to correct this, but that messes up our streams.  I'm not saying kill anyone, I'm saying there's no need to boost the population when we're headed for (what looks like) really tough times.

Population equilibrium, carrying capacity... where normally the population would stabilize.  That's a healthy limit.  With modern medicine, technology.. as I said earlier oil, we cheat that limit and mother nature doesn't take care of us.  We've pushed the pendulum way too far and it's starting to swing back.  We're a pest and the world would truly be much better off (much more healthy) if we were gone.  And actually, with how interconnected we are, a pandemic is truly a feasible event...  It'd be nice if people just died when we got to the limit, but being human, we cheated.  We will pay, whether it's now, or in 100 or 200 years, I can't say... but eventually, we're probably fucked

Can the OP explain the map a little better? It says the colors correspond to percent of population growth, but the map does not specify per which unit of time.

Guess all the Africans need to... "Go north young man GO NORTH!" Also does this map show a error percentage for illegal immigrants? cuz we got ALOT of those here in America.

I don't think medical progress is as fundamental to human growth as agricultural advances and an enlightened society.  By enlightened I mean highly literate, educated, socially aware, stuff like that.  Those are key combatants to Malthusian theory.

Policies for population control are draconian and unneeded (IMO).

My bad. The graph basically uses the default measurement for population growth, which is percentage growth per annum.

I think he's pointing out the fact that you can't have negative zero.  It should be <0.

No, -0 makes sense.

Say, if the population is 100,000 one year, then it's 98,000 the next, the growth will be less than 0%. Thus, you can have a growth below 0 percent.

Less than zero is expressed as <0. -0 is minus zero, which is the same as just zero.

The thing is they there aint any room for them in our luxury we don´t nore won´t we allow them to catch up thus they are stuck in the shitholes producing children with no future. That´s quite an Utopia thinking they will just catch up and become just like us all we do for em is exploiting them and pointing some fingers when they can´t be civilized as we are.
