PS3 vs. New PC

I'm standing between getting a PS3 and upgrading my PC.

The PC upgrade would be going from 3800+ and 2GB DDR to e8400 and 4GB OCZ platinum DDR2 ram.

Getting a PS3 is mostly so I can play GT5. I would get a 60GB version so I can use my old PS2 games on it.

Am I really going to notice a big difference between the two PCs? I haven't really felt the need for more power, as it plays the games I want perfectly (cod4, CSS, tf2, rFactor, project torque, audiosurf)

So should I upgrade my PC or buy a PS3 + GT5?

They both cost the same.

I dunno, I'd go with the PC. So much more to do. What're you gonna do when GT gets old/boring (granted it would take A WHILE cause that game looks sweet) but it will eventually. Your comp has so much more versatility.

I just bought the 40GB version and will get GT5 prologue on releaseday 26/3

Upgrade the PC, apart from GT5, what else are you going to play? PS3 doesn't have heaps of killer games for it...if you upgrade the PC, you'll be set for any new, sweet games that come out soon.

With PC games graphics' changing rapidly and the PC era progressing, it's better to upgrade. That 3800+ will become obsolete very soon.

The PS3 is only 400 bucks...you can always get it another time. Getting the PC is the wise option for the long run, in case you can't get that extra 400 anytime soon.

About the PC, I rarely play games on the PC anymore. The only new games I've gotten are CoD4 and the orange box. They work perfectly fine. Is the 3800+ really going to be obsolete soon? If something amazingly awesome comes that requires an upgrade, I'll probably have enough money to upgrade it when that time comes. Because atm, I can't see anything worth upgrading for.

Get the PS3, you're gonna need it for GTA 4 and MGS 4

Not sure where you're gonna get the 60GB version, though, seeing as they sold out some time ago and have been discontinued in the EU. The few 60GB models that are available are being sold by private sellers at prices that are considerably higher than the RRP

It took some soul searching to decide which was the moral answer, but that computer upgrade, while significant, isn't necessary.
However, the ps3 is nice, can play older games (there is no better console game catalog than that of the PS/PS2), and has LittleBigPlanet coming up for it.
That title alone should sell that console.

I hate myself for not getting a 60 Gb version when they were still available. All this time I kept on thinking "I'll wait some more until it drops to a reasonable price and besides, I won't be able to use it that much right now". Fuck Sony and their decision to drop backwards compatibility.
