Hello, I am having troubles running BF2. I recently ungraded my vid card and now when I go to launch BF2 it goes to a black screen then back to my desktop.

These are my system specs:

CPU - Intel core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
Mainboard - Intel DG965WH
RAM - 4 GB Kingston PC2-5300 333MHz DDR2
GPU - BFG GeForce 8800GT OC - With the latest drivers from nVIDIA
OS - Windows XP home SP2

Any input would be great. I have tried all I have read at EA tech support with reinstalling the drivers 3 times along with sound drivers.

Thanks.

You can't get your hands on the old driver?  Or do a system restore?

I tried the drivers that came with the box also. Sorry should have mentioned that. No luck with them. I do not have a recent restore point. I also should mention that I put this new card in replacing and x1950 pro and had no issues with that card. I have already sold it off so there is no chance of swapping out and trying it.

Do other games work? Have you tried reinstalling BF2?

Did you recently use a program to force a certain refresh rate?

I had a similar problem, check my old thread: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=11133

Yes I have tried to reinstall BF2. I have also tried Bioshock, Quake 4, Half-Life 2 and Everquest 2 and they work fine.

I will try that cable. After I put it in I also played around with setting it on my HDTV. If I remember right something with the refresh did get changed. So how do I get all the refresh rates reset?

Try mydocuments>battlefield2>profiles>yourprofile#>video.con and change the line:

VideoSettings.setResolution ___x___@___Hz

Replace the ____'s to whatever you had before. ie: 1024x768@100Hz or whatever.

I found the file but I am unable to open it. What would you recommend that I use?

I thought only 60 worked for refresh rate?

Use notepad to open a .con file. You can use any refresh rate as long as your monitor supports it. I use 100Hz.

RAM - Kingston PC2-5300 333MHz; DDR, so 333mhz=667mhz

Tried but still no luck. I am going to try what the other person you linked to in your old post. Uninstall and delete all local content then reinstall... again.

Before you get all drastic and reinstalling, do some searches on the video.con file or fixes for refresh rate, I'm sure you'll come up with something. The problem could be related to whatever you did with the TV.

It is DDR2 I failed to mention that in the specs. And I have 4 GB but windows does not recognize all 4.

Thanks for all the help. It is working now. I still cant say exactly what it was maybe the combo of doing fresh installs of vid drivers and BF2 or what. Sense I did a BF2 reinstall Tuesday I am not sure what worked.

Thank you again for all the help. It is much appreciated.

You can't be serious, can you?

DDR(1) was replaced by DDR2 after DDR400 or PC3200. There is no such thing as DDR1 PC5300/333/667MHz. DDR stands for Double Data Rate, and is a term that can be applied to any memory technology using a 2x multiplier. There are also no motherboards with support for FSB1066 and DDR1, or the newr stepping Intel procesors, so running a Q6600 with DDR1 is virtually impossible.

Adding to the topic, I had this problem when i switched cards from a Radeon 9600 to a GeForce 6600 in my bed computer, I solved it by totally uninstalling BF2, patches and then reinstalling from scratch. After you've uninstalled, start regedit (Start -> Run -> regedit), and delete:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DICE\Battlefield 2(TM)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\My Company Name\Battlefield 2 Patch v1.*

Then remove any data left behind by BF2 in My Documents\Battlefield 2 (Back up your screenshots and delete) and your BF2 install dir, which you also delete, if the uninstall didn't. Then reboot, reinstall and repatch. Update PunkBuster, and it should work again.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
