no difference with an 8800gt, vista x64, and SP1. Not in crysis, other games, benchmarks, or anywhere else.

It looks like MS fixed some coding bugs and now the Radeons work like they should. All graphical glitches dissappeared from Crysis with SP1.

I bloody hate SLI and Crossfire and having to keep track of what configuration do or do not work.

Bring back 3Dfx (or whatever it was called).

It is. I'm getting tri-fire with HD3870 X2 + HD 3870.

Sweeeeet.

So, it must be nVidia where you can't SLI the X2's? Or have they got that sorted too now?

They fixed the SLi connector bug and now 9800GX2 SLi works

What a complete waste of money. Ever heard of the new quads coming out ( yeah, COMING, delayed till April in Europe. Seriously pissed off ).

Don't be stupid and impatient by getting the 6600, it's an insignificant upgrade to your C2D, compared to a huge upgrade to the new Quads.

It still wont get near to the performance of the new quad, which you can then overclock to crazy speeds. You are fooling yourself here.

What Zimmer is saying: buy the Q6600, and it will be good. Wait and buy the new quad cores, and it will be a fuckton better.

I only have one 3850, but I'm sure I'll still get a little bit of a boost from Vista SP1. I was waiting for SP1 to come out before I installed it, and now that it has... and since Spring Break is coming up in a couple days... I'll definitely have to install it and check it out over the next week.

By the way, does anyone know if it's possible to trade in one mobo and get a discount on another one? I've got the Gigabyte P35-whatever that everyone and their mother has, but it's only one PCIx16 slot; so I'd like to eventually get a new mobo that'll have at least two PCI 2.0 slots so I can buy another video card and get crossfire going.

100€ is a bit too much for the CPU upgrade... I need some money for the HD 3870 as well... I bet I won't notice any difference with my 3 gfx cards even tho there is 'only' a q6600 at like +3.2ghz....

I bet you will. Right now, Crysis is a hugely demanding CPU game, and so are the newer games that are coming out. Demanding more of the CPU ( and of graphics of course, but the demand for CPU is higher now ) will be a norm in the next few "big games", and the Q6600 wont cut it for the next year, whereas the others will.

I play A LOT different games. The Q9300 would give me ~3 FPS more. Once someone (maybe you Zimmer?) can explain me how that 3 FPS is gonna make the Q9300 last any longer than OC'ed Q6600 G0 or make any noticable difference, I shall gladly buy it. Untill then, I save 100€ and get Q6600 G0...

edit: and trust me on this... I have read more than enough of hardware reviews... I know what they have said there... I pretty much know what I want, and how I get it.

the Q9300 will be obsolete the exactly same time as Q6600, the moment when 8 core Nehalem hits the market. Untill then, it doesn't matter do you have a Q6xxx or Q9xxx CPU. Release of Nehalem is only like 9 month away... any of the CPUs mentioned can make it there.

Woah... That's some huge improvements. Too bad my crappy computer loses 60% speed by running Vista alone
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I think the new quads will be better in any game/app. They have so much memory that the communication between the main processor and physical ram will be really quick.

I'd notice 3 FPS... sometimes it's the borderline difference from stuttering/choking to still playable/somewhat smooth. 3 here + 3 another place can make 20-24 FPS closer 30 FPS and at 1920 x 1200 resolutions that's a rather noticeable improvement.
