"System" process using 10+% of CPU all the time

So, I downloaded and tried the Vista Transformation pack 8 on my lappy, only to discover that it uses way too much resources for a 2004 notebook to handle. So, after playing around with the Aero theme a bit, I uninstalled it. Now, when I booted up again after the unintstallation, the System process uses over 10% of the CPU power at all times. Usually around 15. Has anyone here had similar issues with this and/or other programs? Because 15% CPU is a lot when we're talking Pentium Ms at 1.6GHz...

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. rgr... if u really wanna see whats up in the system process, click view>lower pane, and set the lower pane to DLLs. when you highlight the system process, it will show you every single driver and dll being used O.o

(btw, u should leave this thread for others... very useful app!)

If you find that something appears to be using a percentage of your CPU all the time, hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up Windows Task Manager and select the Processes tab - this shows a list of running processes - so, click on CPU twice, it will now display the list in descending order of CPU usage - hopefully it'll say "System Idle Process" at the top - you can safely ignore this - that's what runs when nothing else is running - but it will also what show what is hogging your CPU (most likely the second thing on the list).

From that information you may be able to figure out how to fix it - and the information will almost certainly be of use to anyone you ask for help with matter.

OH, this is for XP - I don't know whether Vista is the same or not.

task manager is so 1980. earlier in the thread i recommended freezer install this little gem:
"download process explorer and you can find out exactly what's goin on."

its the task manager on steroids. it shows waaaay more info about your running processes. it will even show what's actually running inside your system process. everyone knows about the task manager, but for anyone else who has problems with their system or svchost taking up a lot of resources, this little app is

I have a similar problem except that the system idle process is running at between 70 and 98% is this atal unusual (consistentley spiking up to this sort of level) beacuse sometimes the fans go a bit mad and spin like crazy but other times they dont can anyone explain.

cheers at least now i know why its using the cpu so much.

im not sure about the fan speed either beacuse if the pc freezes and i hold in the power button to turn it off whilst i hold the button in the fan speed increases?

Exactly, and the idle means: 100% - amount of % the cpu uses. So if your processes use together 10%, then you're system idle "uses" 90%. Doesn't really use it, it just means that your cpu is only loaded for 10% and could handle a lot more.

Freezer once I also had a skin pack on my PC and when I uninstalled it, a Trojan installed itself. As soon after I uninstalled it, now I'm not saying it is a Trojan but you might wanna scan for one.

Nah, wasn't any malware or anything, it was just an app for a kind of rendering in the skin that had to emulate some stuff, due to my DX8.1 graphics card. My computer is running fine since long ago, using Windows standard theme, with themes.msc disabled
