Ok, i put them on to listen to Rod Stewart, and CoD4 and the light came on, the volume is on full and i'm currently blasting some music, and nothing is coming out. I haven't done anything today except move the monitor to the right by about 40 cm and on Saturday i pushed the computer forwards to clean the case, but nothing has happened because the sound stopped working today. I have checked the volume control and its not muted.

Also, CoD4 keeps freezing. I have a shrewd idea that my brother and his friend are down to this, because when he noticed i kept restarting the compter, he asked in a worried voice whats wrong with it.

Anyway, your help will be appreciated, and karma for anyone who solves this problem.

Do you have a headphone jack on the speaker?

If so try plugging headphones in, if you can hear things out of them, but not the speaker then it could be a problem with the speaker itself, if not check the connections and have a fiddle with the sound settings, I know you said you didn't change anything but sometimes my sound settings go all wierd from one day to the next and I have to reset them back to how they were.

Why don't you try to connect the speakers to an mp3 player and seeing if they will play. Should help to narrow down the problem

Fiiiiiixed it, under adjust audio properties the device volume was put on low.

Still no help about the freezing issue though?

It's a built in protection system on all computers, when you try to play shite music it mutes the speakers to prevent any damage anyone that may overhear it.

all the usual stuff. Drivers, Overclocks, updates, dust, temp, recent software changes, error messages?

Oooh yeah, tonnes of errors and "your system has recovered from a serious error" and that blue screen that tells you to do some diagnostic utility thing is you've seen it before. That blue thing happens SOMETIMES when i load up my profile, right at the start, like 10 seconds in.

Anyhow, i take it like a man and ignore it. The blue thing has only happened like 5 times, most recently, today. What do i do?

The "blue thing" I believe you're referring to is called a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD). It could be any number of problems.

Sounds like you could have a RAM problem. Download memtest86+ and run the scan for about 4 hours (it runs in an endless loop). If you have errors, you have bad RAM.
