I feel you. I've got an essay due Monday on "the Duties of the board of directors during bankruptcy in the light of the stock cooperation law revision" (rough translation). In the 3 months I've had this topic all I did was read 2 pages. Not that I didn't try. I sat countless hours with the book on my lap but always ended up browsing bf2s or something.

Just like Ty I thought about quitting my studies, but I'm only less than a year away from finishing so it would be a huge waste. I can't take a break either because I'm one of the last to have started in the old system, so I've gotta finish or I'll have to start over.

I agree with him that it's a question of maturity to be able to force yourself to work on something as boring and tiering as law. Maturity I apparently don't have. Funny thing is I have no problem concentrating on any other type of work, whether physical or mental. Only now that the deadline is approaching fast I'm starting to get a little nervous (all right, I'm sweating hard and feel nauseous).

Halp!

EDIT: fixed my grammarar, I should know, I haz an edjumacation

You're lucky. Once I start I devote half of my thoughts to how to get out of working. Assignment due the next day and I spend 3 hours fiddling with wires and menus because I found an adapter that let me use my TV as a second monitor.

Depends on the person. I myself find that studying is unnecessary if you bothered to learn properly the first time round. There are those in Australia that would fail and badly if they didn't study as well, because they need things to be refreshed in their memory.
In Finland we have this final exam at the end of 12-13 school years. You simply can't remember all from the lessons and not everything is taught either. You have to study, a lot.
In Australia (or NSW) we also have an exam for each subject at the end of year 12 which tests everything from the previous 2 years. My point is if you learn stuff correctly the first time it becomes second nature and you don't need to study it.

An example is, do you need to study how to count? or spell? or where the capital city is of your country? I'm guessing no, well take the same memory and just apply it to more complicated things like calculus.

"and not everything is taught either."
Well that's a piss poor education system then, not something I would have expected from Finland. The basic rule is Australia is, if you weren't taught it, you can't be examined on it (naturally there are probably some students/schools which fail to complete the curriculum but, that's probably their fault.)
Do you mean previous 2 or 12 years?

I don't know about Australia but here's an example of a math problem:

Show that the funktion f(x) = x2 - 2x has a root in the interval [-1, 1], and calculate it. (4 decimal answer)

Well if you want to do good in the math test then you should be motivated.

What I do is sit at the kitchen table after supper while my parents are cleaning up. I grab my binder, take out all my notes and worksheets, and read everything. If there's something I don't get, I keep reading it over. Then I look through my worksheets to find questions that I got wrong. I grab a sheet of scrap paper, re-write the equation, and solve it.

I get 85-95% on my math tests.

I'm awful at studying. It's why I've given Law a break for now, Law requires a shitload of study and reading and I'm simply not up to that. Even with all distractions removed I simply can't study. It's a maturity thing and a self-control thing. Us who cannot seem to study just need to be really tough on ourselves. It's tough, believe me I know.
i dunno about maturity. i feel the same way about studying but i'm still in the top ten percent of my class at the number one (sometimes ranked 2) highschool in california. for me its more of a feeling that i'm wasting my time studying for a subject that i don't really need to  learn when i could be learning something interesting.

Here is the fail proof way to study, even if you f-ed up and didnt take notes

open book to chapter one, skim it, try to answer questions at end of chapter. Get the correct answers, work backwords. Then go to the next chapter, repeat until you get to the one your on. Dont be scared to email your teacher with a question, they will be more lenient when scoring your test. Bad mark? dont blow it off, find the teacher later and go over it with him privately, this will boost your score by at least 15 points on any later test just for the fact your trying to put a little extra effort in. Unless the teacher is a douche, most of them want you to pass

I really, really, really suck at studying. I say I'll study and end up not doing anything. "Disconnect your router from the internet!" you say? I'm not a plebe, I'll end up re-connecting it.

I'm lucky I'm just naturally smart... the only exam I really studied for for my mid-terms was English, but otherwise I got an A on Math and Chem, and Bs/B+s on History, Spanish, and English.

Maths is my only "difficult" subject. On every other one, I've beenabove averege so far. Although, this year, I've felt tired at studying. Just, "Duuuuuuuuhhhhhh" as soon as I think about it.

The averege is what counts when applying for the next level of schools, so to say, so if I can keep the other grades, I should be somewhat fine. As soon as I get out of this shithole school, everything's gonna be sooo much "lighter"...
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Do you understand the stuff? If you were given a question, could you do it, or would you have to look back to see how to do it?
If you can do the questions without looking back, you should do fine. Just study the stuff you think the test will focus on, and study the stuff you are having trouble with.

Well if you don't understand a subject go on the googles and look it up. Tons of math websites out there. Why they have them i'm clueless. Also if you don't understand something ask your teacher. I can't stress that enough. If you don't get something just ask em. Math builds on itself, you don't understand one thing you won't understand a crap load of other things.

As for motivation, tell yourself you can't do something fun until you study. Studying right before bed is another good way, puts it right in your memory.

~Edit~ Mek I feel for you lol, people call me all the time when im trying to do shit. Too bad I don't have the balls to scream horrible curse words at my parents yet.

Ok, I've got it pretty much figured now. The test is tomorrow, but there's always an option to re-take the test if you fuck up. The math teacher is slow as hell, so she'll propably hand us the tests next tuesday or thursday (No math on wed), and that will make the re-taking on thursdau or friday We don't have any other tests that week, so it's gonna be cool. I also got mom to help me a bit, she's a teacher, and even though she's usually retarded in the most exotic of ways, she knows how to teach

Pay attention in class Math is allot harder to study on your own time compared to most other subjects, it requires some more than just reading comprehension.

I do pay attention, but our teacher is too goddamn fast. We started with the 9th grade book halfway into the first term of 8th grade. Then, in the 9th grade, we've done almost nothing for a couple of months, and then some time ago, WOOSH, full speed again!

Math is the easiet studying subject ever.

Here, let me help you in my easy 3-step guide.

1. Open book
2. Find a task that should be done
3. Do it

and repeat.

If you don't know the answer, post it in this thread, and we shall help you.

In all seriousness, this is the answere.

The real way to get it done is sit the fuck down and do it.

Doesn't sound like a good answer but its the best TBH.  No magic about it your the only one who can make you work, and even though it feels like it there is nothing stopping you.

What does #1 say? Whats the answer? Write that down.

on a side note....
I just finished my last required math class in mechanical engineering! Fucking stoked, thought I was doing bad (as in, take this class again bad) and came out with a B some how! (normally a B isn't too much celebration but really though it was gonna be much worse!)

It REALLY helps to take the time to understand the concepts behind what you are doing, rather then just the steps to get the answer. It also makes the subject much more interesting.

I've gotten decent enough at rambling about math, so if you want any perspective on any topic post up and I'll do my best.

lol, I heard you guys say grade 12...

Don't get to excited...Maybe I'm just American, but highschool (for the most part) is really only a test of if your determined enough to show up...and sober enough to hold a pencil.
