Ok, I heard some people say that if you take out some of the files such as videos or such, your Battlefield 2 game will take up less RAM and make it run faster and the in-gameplay will be faster too. Is this true? If so, can someone tell me what files I should delete in BF2 folder that is unnecessary?
I don't think so. The engine does not mind if you remove the films but I would not recommend removing other files.
I have done "optimising" for RTCW and ET and the idea was this :
---------------------
1. you open every "pack" from the game folder with winzip and extract all the packfiles (pack by pack) to some temporary folder
2. You remake all the "packs" from the extracted files with winzip. All files must be as they were in original pack.
---------------------
After that you have exactly same kind of "packs" than before, only "repacked". The difference in speed comes from compressing method.
When you compress those files with winzip, the compression can be made so that they are faster to load than before.
Could be working method for BF2 too, dunno.
The speed of the game itself does not change ! Changing the ingame "speed" = hack
The feeling of better and faster game speed comes from that faster loading.
The other thing for getting more speed and faster loadings is using low graphics. If you drop detail levels to minimum, your loading times will shorten massively because the engine does not need so much data anymore.
No other ways.
EDIT: I'm not sure if I should even give a hint but once more.
LOOK AT THE CONFIG FILES. You will find a couple of things that will make "the feeling" better.
Especially look inside USERxxxx named files.
IMO some of the needed gamefile locations are beyond imagination...
