I'm trying to burn 4.3 GB of stuff on a 4.7 GB DVD, and for some reason it's not letting me.
It's saying there's not enough space on the disc, while there's actually still 400 MB free.

Ideas?

I'm using Ulead to burn.

Does it burn DivX properly?

I just found something out though..
When I hit the burn button, it does actually say it requires more space than available, and gives me the error when I continue.
So somewhere in that process, it adds something to the DVD, I assume.

Edit: Where'd your post go? O.o

I googled "free DVD burning" and I came up with this.
http://protectedsoft.com/

Edit: sorry I deleted the post cause I realised that program is CD burning only

Was that a typo?

If it wasn't, 4.3GB is 4300MB, that's probably why.

If it was a typo, and you meant something else then I dunno what the problem is, have you tried using another DVD? Sometimes I can't write anything to a blank CD or DVD, but if I swap it for another it works fine.

4.3 GB also requires space for indexing, among other things, bringing the total to slightly more than 4.3, that may be affecting you.

He meant there's 400MB left on the DVD after he puts his Data on it but it says it's full.

Def-con - what exactly is the error you're getting?

Screeny?

I already burned the one (just deleted one file), but here's basically the same thing.

hmm, sorry, I don't know that software, so I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at, but I think what is going on is that the video FILES come to 4444MB, but then it's finding, possibly due to re-encoding, that there's not room on the disc - not all DVD's are the same, and some simply won't hold a full DVD's worth of data.

What make are they? No-brand cheapies?

Memorex, according to the packaging.

I'm stumped.

Maybe it has something to do with the DivX setting?

DVD's only have 4.37GB. They use the same trick as with hdd's, 1000MB in a GB instead of 1024

so your 4444MB > 4370MB

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
