Seems to be quite a few people having tooth extractions/root canals lately.

I get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow and I'm kind of regretting not choosing to be knocked out. They better freeze my mouth properly. Uggh...can't wait till it's over.

I was told I had impacted wisdom teeth. The I heard that it's a bad idea to take them out because that is what they use to bridge to later when your teeth rot out. When I looked at the Xray I was like OMFG!!!

But, I have mine, my teeth are straight and all is well.

IT'S FUCKING MAKE WORK FOR DENTIST 75% OF THE TIME, GET A SECOND OPINION!!!!

Ha.. I just went to the Dentist Today and got X-rayed for my Wisdom teeth.. I only have the top two, and they don't have to come out for a while..

Anyone know why they are called "Wisdom Teeth"?

Because by the time they come in, you should be wise.

Thanks for the opinion ATG. I'm from Canada so the plan through my Dad's work covers the cost (or 99% of it anyway). I'd rather get rid of them now than have problems with them later.

Edit: The bottom ones are coming in on an angle so I'm getting them removed tomorrow and I'm waiting to see what happens with the top ones.

swut I'm saying.
Chances are you won't have problems.
The argument made for removing them is that the wisdom teeth could develop problems, cause harm to other teeth, or cause over-crowding and push on other teeth. Another argument is that wisdom teeth have no real function, and the sooner they are removed the better. But operations to remove the wisdom teeth can cause complications: almost every patient will have swelling and pain afterwards, and about one in 100 people (1%) may have permanent nerve damage, for example.

I got one of mine out, I was worried because I never had a tooth pulled out before.

Here's how it went:
Sat down
Got numb
20Min's
Open mouth for the dentist.
90 seconds later it was out.
Didn't feel anything at all, just felt like some pushing down on my jaw.
She said she was done, I was like done? Yeah she said, I asked if the tooth was out? Yup, that's it she said.
Easiest thing I have ever done in a Dentist office.
I didn't even have to take any pills after the Novocaine wore off.

My wisdom teeth grew in straight is why it was so easy.

mine were impacted, growing into the other teeth and making them crooked.

Had all four drilled out, then proceeded to tear a stitch and get sick on my own blood...

It healed well though.

God forbid we have to have some of our teeth extracted when we get old. We'll want to use those wisdom teeth for anchoring a bridge to the ones that are left. We want to keep all the teeth we possibly can.

I hope it's not much more complicated to get a crooked one out. Time to stock up on Tylenol 3 just in case.

I need to take all four wisdom teeth out.  I have a feeling that they'll actually knock me out for it - local anesthetic would probably wear off after the first two.

The will give you a prescription of Ibuprofen or Vicodin for the recovery just in-case. Generic crap is the same as name brand.

Take every precaution to not get a dry socket, I heard that is really bad!

when they took out mine, they first anesthetized the right half and took them out, they the same with the left.

I just had mine done 3 days ago. The pain isn't that bad, just make sure to take the ibuprofen.
The corners of your mouth will be sore and cracked. You'll realize it the next day, your mouth will be sore, so put some lip balm or vaseline on the corners of your mouth. I'm on day 3 of healing, and it's going well. Good luck!

Mine never came in, and it doesn't look like they will. Looks like I got lucky.

Well...it's over. And my mouth is numb as hell. I got a prescription of Tylenol 3 and Ibuprofen. Insurance covered everything (all $650+). Looks like milkshakes and soft food for the next few days.

If it doesn't hurt too bad, just take the Ibuprofen. Did you get a pill to prevent infection? Make sure to take that too.

And don't drink milkshakes. If you want a milkshake, get a spoon and eat it that way. Sucking on a straw will create a vacuum in your mouth and it will start the bleeding.
