Yes, another thread on video cards.

I got Frontlines, and I have the minimum requirement in video cards. Nvidia 8600 GT, and the game runs like shit, lags, sucks, crashes and burns. I can't play and I'm fuckin pissed about this $50 dollar paperweight

So time to get a new video card. Going for less than $300 the best I can find, from Nvidia....any suggestions? Best places to buy?

Links would be great too, thanks.

Karma to teh best halperz

EDIT: 24 inch monitor

8800gts g92 for $259, and it comes with a free Crysis copy.

Has slightly better performance at higher resolutions and a better cooler than the slightly cheaper 8800gt. Everything else takes you over $300.

Go for the GTX only if you have a screen bigger than 22 inches.

Yeah. Now that I consider it, the 8800GTS G92 is much better for the price. No use to pay $70 for something that will be <10% better. And G92 also OC's much better, is cooler, and takes less power.

Oh, and you might have to change your PSU as well if you go for the GTX.

You could also wait next week and see what the prices are going to be on the new 9800GTXs that are supposed to come out on April 1st. Though it is rumored to be around $360.

With the 24" monitor, sooner or later you'll want to think about running an SLI setup if you want to run games at their highest settings.

This is truth.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I really meant consider when I said go, now that I think about it. There is no arguing a GTX is a good deal for 289.99, but the GTS at 229.99, especially considering Crysis is bundled, is an extremely good deal as well.
