  • Watercooling on a tight budget and first build from scratch?

Can I do it? Can I get the Pump, Rad's, Blocks for the CPU, GPU for £100-£150 and install if on my first build from scratch? I've read up on it and it doesn't seem "too" difficult ... opinions from those using watercoolers appreciated

On a tight budget system, no.

And on your first system, I wouldn't reccomend doing watercooling, as fucking up really fucks everything up.

Seconded.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I've been sorta drawn in by the way it looks, and it's effectiveness ... but if I could find a kit which meets my needs for ~£130 and got a case large enough to comfortably house all the stuff would it be easier to fit?

Well I suppose you can get a watercooling setup for ~£130, but what would you need it for on a tight budget system? Tight budget means low performance components and then the watercooling is just a waste of money, time and perhaps your hardware if you mess something up.

water cooling is for people who have it to spend. If your on a budget, i suggest:  fish tank+mineral oil

When I say a budget I mean E8400, 8800GTS, 1066mhz RAM etc.

If you have the cash, do it.. But I don't see that as a tight budget system.

Yeah I suppose I didn't really make that clear enough, mb. Yeah I'm hoping to keep everything, don't need keyboard, mouse, monitor, to about ... £800 delivered. Just thought it would be easier to install w/c when everything's new rather than having to take it all back out again ... plus it looks shit hot.

Am "thinking" something along the lines of below ... but only if I can get some work sorted out for the Holidays ... hopefully I'll be able to get it.

Switch the ram to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … subcat=817

Also, no HD?

I'd take this HD instead: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … subcat=940 (Silent, although the Seagate is a good choice as well. And a tad faster than this)

Or http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … subcat=940

And if you want to lower the budget, stick with the 8800GTS G92. GTX isn't _much_ better

For the HD ... was just thinking of the cache ... will I notice a difference between 16/32 mb of cache? Btw I'm running some pos IDE drive atm ...

Edited ^^

Basically that Barracuda is faster, yes. If you don't mind it being a tad louder too, then it's fine.

Or you could go for 750GB spinpoint F1 for a tad more £. That is ultimate win of a HD.

Watercooling and a tight budget are mutually exclusive.

You don't even need water cooling for the system you have listed. It would be a complete waste of money. Take out the water cooling system and buy a good CPU cooler and you'll be completely fine. Water cooling isn't even useful unless you have a balls-to-the-wall system that generates a lot of heat. Your rig is far from that. Water cooling is more "cool" than actually useful, and its common for first time builders to get caught up in the hype of it. Don't be fooled.

btw, that first segate you had is, acording to tomshardware, the best on the market. it beats the raptors by a considerable margin. im gettin one to replace my lone 80gb hdd.

also, watercooling leaks. a lot. i cant count the number of people ive talked to who say its more trouble than its worth.

look at some of the block kits out, if your just wanting to watercool your cpu, thermaltake make a pretty cool system thats had some good reviews for about £90

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … ubcat=1038

it can be extended to also if you fancy lcs for your gpu too

Beats the spinpoint F1 by only 5 points (191.5 - 186.3) And Spinpoint is quieter.

Kinda crappy mobo compared to the rest of the shit. Go for at least a DS4 - I have one and its awesome.

Also, watercooling is pointless. Don't get drawn in by it.
