Everyday now, my Internet will just disconnect for a few seconds, with a box saying a network cable is unplugged, then it starts up again and works fine.

What Gives?

It's probably just your crappy ISP. That happened to me all the time when I had DSL. It stopped when I switched to cable.

It just started happening recently, I don't know what the problem is. My ISP hasn't given me any trouble at all in the past.

Router malfunction?
Check if all the lights are still on when it "disconnects"

The Power button remains lit, but the DSL and Internet lights go out. They come back on shortly after.
I should just phone my ISP.

if it says network cable unplugged, it's either an issue with the ethernet card or the cable... try replacing the ethernet cable first, and if it happens again, try wiggling it around in the port to see if that causes the same problem.  if the port is busted, you can always get a pci nic and use that instead.  it wouldn't be your isp, because even if you lose your internet connection, your cable is still connected to your router, so it wouldnt report itself as being unplugged.

worst case scenario, the port on your router might be malfunctioning, but hopefully it has another free port.  good luck!

make sure the phoneline connected to the router is that of the master socket of the house.
