When you try it, you end up with a dead card. I don't know how they tried nor what the clockspeeds were afterwards but there has to be a way to do it since the GPU reference is identical, only the clock's are higher but are lower compared to the OC I did with my 8800GTS 512MB 735/1140.

Can it be done without my card going Chernobyl?

Why would you want to flash ur card to GTX in the first place... ?
Your 8800GTS BIOS is perfectly fine for OC use. 9800GTX BIOS would bring you NOTHING more.

9800GTX has different PCB so all you get from flashing to GTX is nice blue screen...

, well that makes me quite sad cuz now I don't know what to do. Buy another 8800GTS 512MB and go SLI and rape the 9800GX2 in the face or buy the 9800GTX

your card already pwns the 9800GTX at those clocks. Upgrading to it would be madness... SLi 8800GTS 512MB on the other hand sounds great.

It's only a 200,00 upgrade against a 299,00 9800GTX or a 450,00 9800GX2 but after reading ELITE's experiences, it really let me down.

Tbh, I would sell it and buy 2 8800GTS 512MB, benchmarks in-game showed it's by 10% faster.
