Purp Heart?
lultard he didnt have the req.

but 4 srs he needs to be recognized, he basically took his own life to save his comrades, and i guess he picked the right day to do it because he came out alive.

I don't think he got injured badly enough to get the purple heart (lucky bastard, that never works in BF2).

Whatever medal he receives, they'll be telling stories about him to recruits for decades.

Been done before but, without the same outcome.

He deserves the equivalent to the Medal of Honor which, I assume is the Victoria Cross.

Sounds to me like he deserves a VC.  He definitely put his life on the line for his patrol mates.

Heh. I distinctly remember some Military program where a general said "We don't give out a Purple Heart for a hang nail or a BLOODY NOSE."

Even if they do train, it takes something more than just drills to do something like this.

This man deserves the VC at the very least.

They train them to dive away, like the other members of his squad did.

He's gonna get the Victoria Cross plus a reprimand for not following standard operating procedure.

The shock from the explosion alone should have turned his organs to jelly. Hes very lucky there must have been allot of heavy shit in the bag to stop a shock wave like that.

Very true.  I doubt he honestly thought he'd make it through that.  THAT takes something extra, something that alot of people DON'T have.  I really doubt I could do that.

The medal is deserving, but after he got up from the blast, the reward of being o.k. was probably enough for him to be pleased.

Too bad this type of situation doesn't turn out like this one did more often.

Absolutely. The guy probably didn't even realize what he'd done until afterward.

"What just happened?"

"You just jumped on a grenade and saved the squad."

"I fucking did fucking what?!"

Granite cajones. I hope this story gets told on this side of the pond too.

I beg to differ. The silly guy thought it was one of his mates who trew it, and since friendly fire was off, he wanted to "C4" himself with that nade uppity-up in the tree. The backpack was really a chute so he could jump down afterwards. No?

Well anyhoo, two thumbs up from here. Someone said he should be set up for life. I agree with that.

Doesn't sound like he qualifies for the Victoria Cross.

He wasn't in the presence of the enemy (from what I understand from the article), so therefore he qualifies for the equivalent award the George Cross for bravery not in the presence of the enemy.

"In the face of the enemy" means in the armed forces. George Cross is for civilians.

That's how I interpret it anyway. I'd trust a Pom to know more about Pom stuff than a non-Pom.
