So, yeah, this may have gone in the tech section but it's really only exclusive to BF2 seeing as that's all I play. So here's the deal, got 2 gig of corsair 6400 ram, c2d e6750 proc, 640 mb gts8800 card and a 320 gig HDD.
I used to get pretty much 99 fps on any server i went on, whether it be 64 players or 16, i recently noticed a slight lag and though nothing of it until i tried 64 single player mod, checked the fps and it was yo yoing from around 35 to 70, pretty much the same with online play, even on low populated small maps. I'm a little stumped as to what it might be, I don't think it's a HDD issue, sure it's slowly filling up with crap but that shouldn't affect the fps. Anyone got any ideas as to why? And how to fix it? Help would be much appreciated and I'm sure I could swing a bit of karma your way

Edit: Also, I seldom have anything running in the background except xfire

Nooope, NUFFINK, except xfire, i use renderer.drawfps 1 to check that, plus, in the past when i've recorded, I got better fps then than i do now without recording

Thats only avoiding the problem which is likely to get worse. Have you cleared out you Temp file and deleted the cache for Battlefield? iI do that regulary and it does make a difference to my fps.

Is your hard drive light ever blinking? Have you taken the case off of your computer and dusted EVERYTHING off? Have you cleared your bf2 graphics cache?

If you've tried the above suggestions, and they haven't helped, try defragging your HDD with a decent defragger (I personally favour diskeeper).

Oh, also if you've got a spare PSU, try swapping that in - I know, I know, how can a PSU affect framerate? trust me - I used to get horrible framerates and all sorts of issues, then I upgraded my PSU and they all went away.

QFT. If the PSU can't deliver a steady current, it ain't gonna run fine.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Yes hax are a heavy load for the system, aren't they?

Well, I haven't tried a degraf yet, last time was only maybe a month back, ill do it again tonight though, as far as the psu goes, it's only 6 months old, like the rest of the setup, a 650 watt not too cheap antec I think, i'll clean everything up in bf2 when i get a chance, but just got back from work and thought I better see how bad the dust is, i knew it wasn't pretty, the thing was caked in the stuff, so a good blow dry and some small paintbrushes did the trick there, Ill see how it is lateron. Thanks for all the help fellas.
