Thinking of going to Uni

Ok so im sick of my job, Im not where I wanted to be at 22 I earn a good wage but its not enough for me so I have decided to look into uni courses and have a few questions for the techys here...

I am looking at studing computing (surpise) but can't make my mind up on the course and I am unsure what areas employers are currently looking into. Any ideas?

As for me my intrests in IT are hardware (desktop), networking, 3-D graphics and animation and desgin. I would proberbly happest desgining/building new tech.

I am currently looking at studying at Brighton but am not to fussed really.
I eyeing up Computer Science and Computer Science (Games) mostly the gaming one as that covers most of what I would like to study.

Do it part time, so you still have an income. And can cope with the uni fee's, textbooks, drunken parties.

I'd suggest you do networking, you'd be getting into a fairly safe area that's expanding and will have a competitive jobs market in the long term.

3d graphics and animation design is not a good a choice, unless you can combine it with website design. If you can create flash animation, java, xhtml, css, etc you'll be able to find employment without a problem. Smiply taking an animation or 3-d graphics course it likely to pigeon hole you into one career path, you may not enjoy.

If you like mathematics and\or problem solving Programming is for you. If you are in it just for the money, anything to do with database design and administration pays well.

I'm in my final year of study taking my Bachelor of Information Technology and have been considering where to go once I graduate.

Of the two I'd definately choose Networking, especially if you would be happiest desgining/building new tech.

How can you handle sitting at the computer for so long, especially if it was your job to sit in front of it all day. It's like watching TV for 8 hour while you sit less than 2 feet away from the screen.

Couldn't agree more with this post. It's the best of both worlds since it is going to take three years and you might lose motivation and get sick of having no money.

No, as part time infers the credit points you do each semester (half a full load). You can though do a double or combined degrees, which usually only take 5 years instead of 6 because they have overlapping subjects.

My dad did Computer Science and loved it. He worked for over 25 years in Queen's University, Belfast - pretty high up in the CS field.
