What is your Windows Reinstall Routine?

After you first install your operating system, what order do you install everything else?

Mine is:

Windows
Update Windows
Install Motherboard Drivers
Install Video Drivers
Install Antivirus / Firewall
Games and Programs
Defrag

I tend to do a reformat once a year or so just so clean out my system Next reformat will be RAID-removal, too - though! After having that drive fail on me I think I can go with the slightly poorer speed for security (the most annoying thing will be RAR extraction though...my RAID0 array just eats through them!)

Anyway, once I have Windows reinstalled I usually follow this routine:

- Install Firefox and Internet Download Manager (and then customize them to my tastes)
- Make Windows look even nicer and customize it to my taste
- Download all necessary drivers
- Install STEAM and download some steam games while I am doing everything else
- Install all the applications, games, codecs etc that I use on a regular basis
- Customize the applications I have installed to my taste

Having done it quite a few times now...I'll have all of that done (including the Vista Ultimate install) within about 4 hours, except for the STEAM games of course!

I always make backup of STEAM folder so I don't have to download +20GB all over again

-Default settings in BIOS
-Backup files and download new drivers
-Delete my games folder (except steam of course)
-Format OS partition with windows disc
-Install windows
-Install chipset, gfx, soundcard etc drivers in this order.
-Install FF
-Install most important programs and CCCP codec package
-(windows update and service pack)
-Install games and copy possible save games
-Tune driver options + OC AGAIN + customize file structure and everything I want like background and screensaver etc.
-Test stability and performance

the last but not least: GAME ON!

Install 3DMark
Install ATITool/RivaTuner
OC
Run 3DMark
Run games.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I haven't reformatted my gaming rig, which isn't used much, for three months, and I think I should've done it 1.5 months ago... I'm a reformat whore.

Install new 36gb sata hdd
Install Xp 32 and Vista 64
Install drivers on both (latest ones) using memory stick
Install other drivers once the LAN works
Uninstall everything i dont need
Go to old hdd and Delete windows folder.

Start doing windows update
Dl + install firefox + customize and extensions
Dl + install all those little programs you need (flashget, MPC, ac3filter, riva tuner, ...)
install all other software from other HD or disk
finish win updates
install games
patch games
celebratory fap
