Question, Ive heard about 50 different spins on this, and I was wondering if someone could tell me what is the correct answer. Whats the average minimum age you can get corrective vision surgery or w/e its called at? Ive heard not before 28 from my mom, who had it, and Ive heard much earlier from others, that said, my mom had it done 30 years ago. Can someone please help clear this up?
People far younger than 28 get it done. I know people who got it at 23 and 24.
http://www.weinstockeyecare.com/faq%27s.htmWhat is the right age to have LASIK laser vision correction?
There is no strict age requirement. However, most individuals by the age of 20-21 have reached a point at which their glasses prescription will remain relatively stable. The key to being a good candidate is that your glasses and/or contact lens prescription should be relatively stable.
We have treated patients 19-70 years of age with LASIK.
30 seconds with Google.
I know someone who got it done at about 23/24 so he could join the police force. It maybe different depending on country specific policies though.
Ok thank you, Google didnt cross my mind...pretty bad considering its my homepage.
Yeah, Im looking at the military, and with 20/50 vision, they are gonna require I wear glasses, contacts dont really work out there I guess..lol.PureFodder wrote:

We run a cosmetic enhancement magazine at the publishing company I work for and I can tell you that in Ireland a cosmetic surgeon will not perform any procedure on anyone under the age of 18 (including corrective eye surgery), I'm sure there are different guidelines for other countries though.
I want it now, but apparently I have to wait until I'm 20... You can do it at 18. At least in Switzerland.
edit: My prescription hasn't changed in over 2 years...

Yeah, gonna have to look up the age around here, btw, are the google ad's put there depends on what is talked about in the topic? Considering I have a LASIK add at the bottom of the page..
You're 15 aren't you? I doubt you'll be able to have it for a while...
16...but yeah, I wasnt expecting it now, I was wondering how late into my 20's I would wait.ghettoperson wrote:

According to my eye doc, 20 is a guideline minimum although 18+19 if its a time-sensitive reason
ask an eye-doctor. lolCommie Killer wrote:

Birth Control Goggles.
I didn't know laser eye surgery was even around 30 years ago?
I have badddd vision (20-200 or so, can't remember) without contacts, and here is what my Optometrist told me when I got my last exam (about 6 months ago) - It all depends. There is no set rule. For me, she said I could possibly be a good candidate in a few years once my prescription stabilizes. However, my dad's hasn't changed in 20 years and he's had the procedure twice (the first time was when the procedure was relatively new, and it didn't work - at all). Still, he can't really drive at night unless wearing his "driving glasses" (haha old man).
Your best bet would be to see an Optometrist, get your eyes checked, and have her give an "expert" opinion, as opposed to an "Internet expert" opinion.

o lawds, do you have to wear those things in the military? That'd be reason enough for me to man up and get LASIK.Major.League.Infidel wrote:

thought wrong
You can do it earlier than 28, but it doesn't mean that you won't need glasses. LASIK can fix your distance vision, but as a result, up close will be blurry (even if you've never had a problem with it).
i had bad vision ..... then got stuck with the birth control glasses during boot camp but after I got and went on to SOI I went back to my contacts and used them all through the Marines (I even wore them during vists back to the gas chamber) and I was a scout/sniperCommie Killer wrote:
