I get it, 99.999% of the troops are doing their best in a bad situation.
Unfortunately it only takes one Haditha or Abu Ghraib to wipe out all the good work.

Agreed, if you're going to ban one backwards ultra conservative, why not ban the rest. They're all the fucking same.

No, it only takes a lack of that perspective in the reporting or on the part of the audience to wipe it out.

I see, so shooting up civilians because you're in a bad mood, or torturing and beating people to death is all fine.
Its just how - or more probably if - its reported that makes the difference?

Did I say that? No.

I'm talking about how reporting only the bad and ignoring the good (perspective of reporting) affects how the audience views things. If all they hear is bad, they'll think that all that happens is bad...particularly without the perspective you pointed out: that 99.999% of military members serve honorably. Which is a higher percentage than the public at large.

so a handful of soldiers or marines commit crimes and you wanna put the spotlight on the entire US military.  But, when a large amount of nutjobs and radicals do things in the name of islam, you get upset at the amount of muslim bashing?

dont make much sense to me.   you just dont like the US.

What's scary is that news about the My Lai massacre in 'Nam didn't get out for a couple years.  Even then there are heroes - I think it was something different, but in 'Nam, some soldiers got pissed off and started shooting at villagers.  Some guy in a helicopter landed his helicopter in-between the soldiers and the civilians.  The guy who did that should've got a dang freakin' gold medal.

Exactly, like how only negative stories about Islam make the news and newspapers.

I don't recall a lot of stories like that in the mainstream media here...not even on Fox. They are focused on individuals' actions and words, not lambasting the entire religion.

Regardless, I guess we're in agreement that selective reporting has caused a lot of misunderstanding of reality, no?

Well there you go, maybe you need to post some happy stories in this forum about Muslims.  I'm sure they must do something nice in communities, right?  They must have resue missions that help poor of any religion and can food drives and such, right?  They don't just send money to Palestine to fund Hamas do they?

Please, show me the Vast Majority of what Islam is all about because I never see it.

No I didn't sys thats what SHOULD happen, unfortunately thats exactly what DOES happen.
We're still talking about My Lai for example.
But, when a large amount of nutjobs and radicals do things in the name of islam, you get upset at the amount of muslim bashing
Now you're the one doing exactly what you're criticising me for.
The number of moslem radicals is very small, AQ probably numbers in the hundreds if that.
Compared with however many hundred milllion moslems there are in the world its pretty much trivial.

Lets say there are in proportion as many bad apples in the US military as there are in the moslem world.

Either way the effect of a tiny proportion of people is disproportionately large - thats life.

who said anything about AQ, I dont have blinders on and Ive got experience dealing with nutjob islamic radicals.   the 2 million people in all the US military (if thats even the number) are no where near the amount of fanatic radical muslims that are behind a lot of the world's terrorism or stand by in support of those terrorist actions.

but you still would rather defend the car bomber and the suicide vester over the citizen soldier.

GS, your personal experience is irrelevant to Dilbert. Unless you got your experience in school or on the internet, it's worthless and unusable as a basis of a position that contradicts his.

No. I only believe that what I have experienced firsthand can't be disproven by someone who knows fuckall about the subject.

Heartwarming.  US soldiers have done that a lot in the 20th century.  On the History Channel a WWII veteran mentioned that him and his platoon gave up their special little thanksgiving meals to give the food to the local people they liberated.  This will create a generation of liberal people perhaps, who see all this stuff about suicide bombers blowing themselves up around a US soldier giving candy to little kids.

I'm glad their doing that, and not massacering a villiage, like in My Lie (spelling?) in 'Nam.
