What do you think?  Seeing what mankind has done in the name of Organized Religions, is Atheism increasing because of these things?

I think the number of atheists would stay the same.  One does not need organized religion to believe in God.

I null voted, because in reality, there is no such thing as organized religion.  It is one of the most disorganized I have seen.

With no religion, the number of Atheists would go up.

No question about it.

I said drop because it's my belief that atheists are so atheistic because of bad religious experiences or simply because they feel the need to rebel against religion.  If it's gone, so too will the atheist be...with nothing to fight against or have bad experiences.  All their hate will then have to be pointed at something else...nature, seasons, people talking on cell phones while driving, etc.

I HATE THEM SO MUCH!!!

Seriously, I do agree with your post here.  A lot of people I know that are obnoxiously atheist had some bad experience with religion.

Meh

I couldn't care less about people driving with mobile phones. I'll just say I've never had any experiance with religion and guess what my preferance is?

I don't know what might happen if all of the sudden Christianity, Islam, and so on degraded only into personal belief in god.  The number of agnostics might increase though, but maybe after a generation of this new world, where people aren't compelled by a central authority that god genuinely exists.

Serge act's as if organized religion is only Crusades and Jihads. Talk about only seeing one side of the coin. Organized religion has also provided essential care and food for the worlds most impoverished. I can't think of anything else that comes close.

A major part of religious appeal is the organization. Thus, if there is no organized religion, the number of people who did not associate with any religion would rise. Many of these people would be atheist. Some would still be theists, but just not associated with religion.

I'd say it'll be about the same as what would happen if only men were left on earth.  You'd be gay.

Can't wait for that pole poll.

Absurd and ridiculous. There is simply not enough of a common link to form large organizations dedicated to common belief, much less a religion (since atheism is not a religion). You may find atheist organizations, but these tend to be focussed on religious rights. Atheists are too diverse, since it is a lack of belief and not a positive belief, to organize for the simple task of discussing that lack of belief.

At the end of the day you'll find more negative things about Organized Religion than positive things.  Go visit the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica is full of gold.  Where's the charity in that?

i can't speak for all atheists. but i don't hate religion, i just think its stupid. If there were no religion the only thing that would change is the amount of time i think about religion, which in all honesty is probably an hour a week.

as for religious people, i suspect alot of them go for the social interaction and community (upper class). if there was no mass then why would they bother praying to someone they don't really care about?

Keep the same --  Just because the organization of religion might end, it doesn't mean people would stop raising people with it or seeking it out of their own volition.

Religion is more a cultural and personal thing than it is an institution thing -- even for people who just "go with the flow."  For most people, if their parents believe in it, they will.

Gold pilliaged from the temples of Central/South America and the Middle East.

I bet you five bucks that if Jesus came back and saw what was going, he'd be all "Lol, wut?"  Christianity was not founded by Jesus, it was founded by people who thought he was teh cheese wizz.  It's like someone not wanting to run for president, but being nominated anyways by a bunch of people.

and the only reason better off people help impoverished people is because god or jesus or pat robertson tells them to?  Religious organizations as a channel for good deeds is fine, but anyone who relies on organized religion to morally and ethically guide them is an animal.

I think he means that religion acts as an easily accessible medium for people to contribute positively to society.
