hmmm I'd get the Q6600 instead of the Q9300. More L2 cache and a higher multiplier on the Q6600, which mean it's more overclockable.

I heard alot of people had problems with the Maximus.

Might want to do some research before you buy that motherboard.

Isn't that a bit expensive for a case?  I know it's top of the line and I'm sure it owns, but... $250!?  Get a $100-150 case and use the extra money to buy a better CPU, like the Q9450.  You won't regret it... it's the components that make the real difference, after all.

There isn't much difference between the Q93 and the 945,a according to panzer only about a 5% difference.

that is correct. the 2mb difference in cache size isn't earth shaking big.

OK well the CPU was just an example.  My point still stands - you could always get another hard drive, a bigger monitor, fans/water cooling, optical drives, software, etc. with the extra money.  Just my opinion - I personally would not spend that much on a case, just not worth it to me.

No, I understand 100% where you're coming from, but I had my mind set on this case, and if anything I will downgrade to the Cosmos (standard one)

great rig, +1

if I had the money now, I'd get the ecaxt same cpu and graphics card, together with 4 GB of that shiny golden OCZ RAM.

I'd probably take a samsung spinpoint HD instead of the WD, but that's just me.

oh, and I am kinda hooked on Plextor optical drives.

No. Not a WD. Seriously. No no no no no.

Either a Hitachi Deskstar ( beasts ) or Samsung SpinPoint ( awsm ).
The deskstar is currently the best HDD out there ( uses a new way of storing files, compresses/read/writes much faster as blocks are vertical and not horizontal ) or the SpinPoint, which is close on its heels.

WD fails compared to them. If you need proof, go over to tomshardware.com

Edit - Seeing as you have the cash to shell it.

It's the fastest drive available and a whopping 32MB cache.

looks great terrific, I love that case. Paying a bit more for a case pays off in the long run, nicer to work with and you can easily drop in a new rig in the future. The mobo isn't ideal but I wouldn't know what else to take. The nVidia chipsets are definitely a lot worse (just think of the huge list of incompatibilities with the 680i/780i)

Is that the new revision already? The first one had some faulty components that caused drive failures... (yes the guys know their stuff). Or was it the 1TB F1.... anyway if that is teh new rev it is nice HDD.

oh you and the spinpoints. You're right though, the spinpoints really are the best drives out there. WD isn't bad though. I really like their 1TB drive. Cool and power efficient, great for data servers

Yeah, true Max. Thing is, he isn't going for a 1TB one, he is going for a basic 500GB one. They have given me problems in the past.
