Hi I just set up IMAP with my google mail acount.

I wanted it to show alerts on Thunderbird and it does but Thunderbird has to be running, i.e. on the taskbar. Is there anyway to get email alerts with it running in the background, if so how do you get it to run in the background. At the moment i have to have it on the taskbar to alert me to a new email.

If this can't be done, does anyone know of a good email client or whatever that runs unnoticed that alerts you to new emails. Note I have outlook 2007 but that just didn't work, full stop.

Thanks.

How do you get new programs to start at startup? I tried going on msconfig>startup, but didn't know how to add program. Or can i change a setting in Thunderbird, I've had a look but cant seem to find anything.

Just copy a shortcut to your Start Menu > Programs > Startup.

If you mean for GMail, Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP
If you mean for Thunderbird, Tools > Accounts

Mind you if you want to SEND email, you need to use your ISP's SMTP (outbound) server.
