Truth be told McCain is quietly eating the Dem's lunch (He was trailing considerably a couple months ago).
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080410/D8VV52QG0.html

Republican Sen. John McCain has erased Sen. Barack Obama’s 10-point advantage in a head-to-head matchup, leaving him essentially tied with both Democratic candidates in an Associated Press-Ipsos national poll released Thursday.

The survey showed the extended Democratic primary campaign creating divisions among supporters of Obama and rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and suggests a tight race for the presidency in November no matter which Democrat becomes the nominee. ….

An AP-Ipsos poll taken in late February had Obama leading McCain 51-41 percent. The current survey, conducted April 7-9, had them at 45 percent each. McCain leads Obama among men, whites, Southerners, married women and independents.

Clinton led McCain, 48-43 percent, in February. The latest survey showed the New York senator with 48 percent support to McCain’s 45 percent. Factoring in the poll’s margin of error of 3.1 percentage points, Clinton and McCain are statistically tied.
If McCain is winning independents and married women against Obama, then the Democrats will be in for a very unhappy November.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0408/9504.html

Internal polling data, presented privately last week at the Republican National Committee’s state chair meeting and provided to Politico, shows John McCain with a solid lead over both his potential general election rivals. Powered by the same appeal to Democrats and independents that fueled his primary election success, McCain is leading Barack Obama 48 percent to 42 percent and Hillary Clinton 51 percent to 40 percent according to RNC polling done late last month.

He’s moved ahead of the two Democrats by consolidating support among Republicans, but also by retaining his backing among a wide swath of independents and picking up a small chunk of cross-party support.

Among independents, McCain leads Obama 48 percent to 39 percent and Clinton 54 percent to 34 percent. Among Democrats, he picks up 20 percent in a race against Obama and leads Barack Obama 48 percent to 39 percent and Senator Clinton 54 percent to 34 percent.

It may still be early, but I've felt that McCain was going to win this year as soon as he pulled ahead in the Republican primaries.

Let's be honest -- when a moderate white guy is running for one party, the other party has a slim chance of winning with a female or black candidate.  We don't want to talk about it, but deep down inside, most older white voters prefer having white men as president, and for the most part, old white people vote more often than any other group.

I personally wouldn't vote for someone based on race or gender, and most people at this forum probably wouldn't either, but the average person probably does.

Dean seems happy with McCain as an opponent. He's probably just trying to spin the articles I just posted .

Dean is going to hate McCain with a passion if he chooses Romney as his running mate.  I have a feeling he will, since Romney brings 2 things to the table that McCain needs....  money and the support of social conservatives.

Wow, I would be so pissed if McCain chose Mitt. I like Johnny fine, but have been somewhat worried over his running mate. He's more moderate than most (something I like) but those die hard Republicans don't. To balance that ticket though, I tihnk he'd need a younger person as CP is all too willing to point out, he is getting on in years.

I'd move to Canada if another Republican won.  If you notice, debt has gone up during a Republican presidency.  We had three Republican presidents in a row before the Great Depression.  A Democrat, FDR, cleaned it all up.  We need a Democrat to mop up Bush's monkey shit.

Some have suggested he run with Joe Lieberman for a cross-party ticket.  Others are proposing he run with Condi Rice.

Still others have suggested Huckabee as his running mate, but Huck just strikes me as a loonier version of Mitt.

Well some people are more adept at foreign languages... but for me, Spanish, not easy.  I'll tell ya, the first two years (8th, 9th grade) I tried, I gave it tons of effort.  I still have maybe 1000 flash cards that I made.  I studied for HOURS upon HOURS.  I did horrible, and by horrible I mean I barley passed the tests yet still didn't understand a word of the language.  By 10th grade it was just me trying to get by and pass the NYS Regents exam.

We don't need a Democrat, we need a miracle.  The only thing our new Democratic house has done is try to pass some amnesty bullshit.  God I remember thinking that the Dems were going to bring about doom when they took back congress but they haven't done jack shit, and they're still funding the Iraq war.  Go figure.

Wow. John McCain just insinuated that the Sunni branch of Islam - the largest of the sects - can be identified with Al-Qaeda, and by extension, all Sunni Muslims are closely tied with Al-Qaeda. That's a pretty horrible misstatement, akin to saying Protestant Christianity is closely tied with the KKK, or the Irish heritage is closely tied with the IRA.

The fact that John McCain would basically call millions of Muslims terrorists is appalling. This is the guy we're seriously considering making President? Really? As President, he's going to have to navigate the minefield of Middle Eastern politics, with all the religious and political groups that go along with it. And not only can't he tell the major factions apart, but he thinks one major branch is "closely tied" with Al-Qaeda.

Sorry folks, McCain may have "experience," but he doesn't know shit about foreign policy.

Amusing, yet terrifying. I worry this guy is going to get in. Hitlery and Obambie are slinging shit at each other like a couple of monkeys.
Compared to Obama and Hillary he's a fucking genus in international relations.  And if you used the the phrase "slinging shit at each other like a couple monkeys" you'd be branded a racist and a bigot -by your two poster dems.

Too slow to adjust indeed...  Still, the Stock Market Crash and the recent mortgage meltdown prove that free market economics aren't ideal, just like the Soviet Union proved that Communism isn't either.

Moderation is the key, and America needs a little more socialization in medicine but a little more privatization in retirement.

Poor business decisions created this credit meltdown. Nothing in the free market says lend money to people who can't pay you back. It will be the free market that corrects itself again.. like it always does when government doesn't screw with it.

The government thankfully "screwed" with the ability to sell stocks on margin back in the 30s.  Now, it looks like we've been buying mortgages on margin.

If we want to keep making parallels with the Great Depression and today, I would like to point out how many people think Obama is running on vague rhetoric and ideals, without having specific ideas as to how to solve problems. This mirrors FDR's campaign tactics in 1932.

honestly, I wouldn't even hire a disabled 71-year-old to mow my lawn. He could get hurt. Why would I want to make one president of the US ?
I mean, we all know how stressful that job is. With all due respect, McCain should be enjoying his retirement and play with his 4 grandchildren, not run for the most difficult job on the planet.

He may be a distinguished 'Nam Vet and Senator, but he is certainly not the guy I would want to represent "modern" america. Luckily for me, I won't have to vote...

In terms of fresh ideas McCain is probably the worst possible candidate from what I can see. When the majority of the nation want an Iraqi troop pull out he proposes a 100 year occupation. What he doesn't factor in is that the oil reserves will probably have been exhausted in 40 or 50 years so there won't be any need to stay any more than that length of time....

My god...where do you come up with this crap. Take a brief history lesson back to just before you were born and remember what happened in the 70's and who was leading us then and then what happened during the 80's and who ruled then. Anyhow, its cyclical to a point and honestly our economy has held up under some extreme conditions. Who knows how long it will hold up though.

If you want to know what this country will be like under Hillary Clinton....look no further than Michigan. Michigan is under Democratic control and a Democratic Governor and they have put Michigan into a one state recession before the country started showing signs of recession. Granholm(the Democratic Governor) has taxed and spent the hell out of Michigan and its people and she is just like Clinton in her actions, her talk and her promises. Michigan has the worst housing crisis in the United States, its in a recession, she continues to spend and tax and now she is shutting down programs, schools etc. to protect what she feels she needs to spend on. But of course there is always room for a pat on the back on a raise or two for themselves. This is how the Dems are running things her in Michigan.....I wonder why everyone is moving away, why whole neighborhoods lay empty and for sale signs every where......hmmmm....yes, Democrats will do so much better....NOT!!!!

I will say that the Republican nomination was always a race to see who was going to lose to Hillary or Obama ... regardless of what you may think of any candidate, I don't think it is conceivable for a Republican candidate to come out with this election.

There aren't enough crazy people in this country to get Hillary elected if she gets the nomination.  Obama might be able to pull it off... might.

No, unregulated greed and predatory lending practices were as much the problem as bad business decisions.  Companies that bought investments, that were labeled AAA safe, had large sums of these sub-prime mortgages attached to them.  Since deregulation I have seen nothing but increases in the scope and size of these fuckups.  The free market economy can never be truly 100% free.  Without regulation and oversight of the government, these maggots would fuck over their own mother to make a buck.
