Cloverfield is a great movie. I recommend it definitely! Some great special effects.

Also if you're gonna watch it apparently you gotta keep watching through the credits for an ending...

Wish I knew that before I went to watch it. Who the fuck sits through the credits normally?

Great concept, but going far enough to actually use a shit-ass camera for it is too far. They should've done it like that in the beginning, and then crossed over to something better. My eyes bled when I watched it.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Tbh special effects are pretty good but the movie is crap. The free hand camera sounds like a good idea (on paper) but in reality its incredibly annoying and it gets really old really fast. The idea of the movie is to give you a feeling about how it would be for a normal man if something like that really happened. Not what would president of USA do, or Bruce Willis but a normal man. And the point of the single shaky camera and constant screaming of "oh my God" is to help with that perspective and give it a more realistic feeling. But in my opinion the movie fails in giving that feeling since everyone behaves unrealistically and you dont really get a chance to connect to any of the characters.
So in the end its a normal movie with an annoying camera work. Only good side is that its very very short

There is a similar movie that does the "common man" approach much better. Its called "The Mist",

I find it to be much better than Clover.

i saw the film at home the other night, i thought it was a great film but one i WONT watch again, reason the damn 3rd person camera shake, for those who have not see not seen the film, but seen plenty of those films where you  get some bird running away from the bad guy in the Forrest and you see it from there POV (SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE) orrible. CGI is brilliant as i saw the film at home i saw the end or shall i say heard the end still cant make out what he says! so what does he say? answers on a postcard

BTW if you have seen blair witch, its filmed in the same manner.

I saw the movie in theaters with my girlfriend when it first came out.  About one third into the movie, my girlfriend could not watch anymore because she was getting sick from the camera.she had her head on my shoulder the rest of the time with her eyes closed.  I, on the other hand, did not get sick or annoyed of the first person camera.  Quite the contrary, I thought it was brilliant and really set the film apart.  It all comes down to your personal preference.  Some people such as myself enjoy the camera work while others can't stand it.

I definatley recomend the movie.

just watching that 7 or so minutes was enough to tell me I wont ever see the whole thing.  that guy screaming like a little bitch was beyond annoying.  not to say I wouldnt in that situation but I sure as hell dont want to listen to it.  and the camera shake would drive me insane.

Yeah i have to say the characters in it are just total fucking retards. They dont act like someone would in that situation at all. The CGI was cool though.

no, because on a bunch of movies i've done that and gotten a little bonus that the losers who left early missed.

Needless to say I'm gonna skip this one.

Cloverfield was definitely in my top 10 movies of all time. I was more pumped up for it than ANY movie I've ever seen. I don't know why...probably because I love LOST so much, and JJ Abrams style of producing and his ideas draw me in so well. It was an incredibly unique story (albeit a bit short) and the fucks in the theatre who said they didn't like it or that it was the worst movie ever only didn't like it because the ending didn't give them closure...which is a stupid reason to not like a THRILLER MOVIE. Oh well. I loved it, and it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

yeah I thought it was very good but after about 40 minutes of the shakey camera and the annoying people you just want them to hurry up and  die so you can stop watching it !
