Why are we comparing numbers here? It's a fucking SUV.

I don't care if it does 0-60 faster than a BMW/Range Rover. I don't care if it runs around the ring slightly faster.

I do care, however, that the interior and overall comfort in a BMW/Range Rover is better. Which I bet it is.

But none of that really matters, because the "Pontiac" G8 loses by default. Why? To quote Captain Slow, "It's about 3% uglier than the troll"

Wait, performance doesn't matter just because you think it's ugly?

no, because it's ugly and looks cheap it fails as a sedan. Even if it's fast, that can't outwheigh the fact that it's ugly and won't give you the ride you expect from a high end car. Especially since there are nice and fast sedans

It's not a high end car, so why you guys keep insisting on comparing it to a 60K ride quality is beyond me.

When one is arguing a losing case, or doesnt have enough experience to argue with fact or personal experience, one will grasp at anything they can think of.

Because what 30-40k cars do they have to compare it to?  To beat the quality of these newer sedans that the US is putting out, you have to go up in price to find a comparable import.  Look at the Malibu for example, that is one hell of a car, but these guys won;t like it because it doesn't make them wet like the $75k BMW does.

I personally think that the G8/G6/G5 are bad ass looking cars and they are decent performers, and I dislike the styling of some of the newer Audi's that are out.  (R6, and the Quatro I think?)  But I'm not going to disown the Audi's on that standpoint, as looks are only part of the total car.

If I wanted the quality and comforts from a $75k car, than I would buy one.  But to compare a (I assume?) sub-$40k car to one is absurd.

I'll take a Evo, Impreza, Audi A4/6, BMW 3/5 series over that anyday.

Just something about the looks, and i have reservations about Pontiac build quality.

edit - The whole money argument...

US Cars don't have a good rep here.

The perception is:

Poor build quality
Terrible MPG
Shitty interiors
Poor handling
Poor ride

Coupled with real world problems like:
Poor dealership provision
Fuel Prices.

While these may be (and indeed, some are) generalisations, it's still what puts many of us off US cars.

May be generalizations?   It's hard to respect an opinion about build quality, mpg, interior, handling, and ride of a car someone has not driven when multiple car mags who have driven the car and compare cars for a living give them good reviews.

Poor build quality?  If compared to cars in it's price range I think you'll find it comparable.

The mpg is simply bs.  G8: 3.6L V6 gets 17city/25hwy and 6.0L V8 gets 15city/24hwy.  BMW 535i, which Edmunds has compared the G8 to.  3.0liter twin turbo inline 6 gets 17city/26hwy.  See?  Virtually no difference.

Shitty interior?  Again are we comparing a 30K interior to a 60K interior?  Check out a Cadillac CTS that's closer to most BMW/Audi price ranges, the interior is hardly shitty.  Poor handling, poor ride?  Look at the skidpad and slalom ratings, they don't lie.
