About 4,600 launches have been made since the first launch of Earth's man-made satellite in 1957. Nowadays, there are about 6,000 artificial satellites orbiting the planet

About 400 of them orbit  Earth beyond its orbit

About 800 satellites are currently functioning of the total number of 5,600

The connection with the rest of the satellites has been lost

A huge amount of fragments and debris - from screwdrivers to fuel tanks - orbit the planet

Can't wait for all those satalites to come crashing back down to Earth. The Space Cowboys will be busy.

Are they savagable sattelites?  It seems like kind of a waste not to try to get them operational...but if they are complete derelicts then that makes a bit of sense.

Imagine a time in the future were its too dangerous to launch into orbit because of the fear of getting struck by space garbage..

It's already an issue.
