The HDD is shrinked to 2.5 format so it can house the new IcePack housing. It will upgrade cooling and will hold any vibration. The drive has a SATA300 plug and has 16MB cache. The estimated lifedurance is estimated at 1.4 million hours. The combination of smaller platters and a higer storagecapacity takes the dataclosure unlike it's 150GB predecessor to a new level, what will be good for streamingspeed. According to WD, the drive will reach 120MB/s easily. The dBA of the new 10k drive is relatively low with 36dBA.

WD will deliver it's first drives to Alienware which will use it in their ALX desktops. Somewhere in the middle of May, the VR150 should be available in the retailbusiness for a pricetag of $300,00, the warranty is 5 years.

nice, although if you're spending that kind of money you might want to think about an SSD

Unless you happen to have some sweet hookups, you're not going to get an SSD for anything like $300.

you can get a small SSD for 150ish $. I'm not saying it's the perfect answer for everyone, but if you're out for super fast load times a SSD might be the better solution

Did anyone else think of TMo when they read the title?

Are you questioning my ability to make a proper title for a thread?

Wait, it's 300 gb?

I should pick one up to compliment my 150gb Raptor.

More RPM -> more noise. HD silencing kits are almost required with 10krpm anyways

Meh $600 for a Raid 0 set up. Price vs. Speed here, as I doubt one drive exceeds RAID 0 speeds.

I'll stick with the original thanks.

No point in giving it to Alienware.  Just give it to Dell themselves since they shit all over Alienware.

Holy crap, just read the english article, that damn thing is FAST. Cheaper and faster than a raptor X RAID 0 combo. Just found my new drive. There will be time for RAID fucking 0

Ever heard of these things called access times? Something RAID0 will typically increase....

Just build a huge RAMdisk. Easy once you've programmed your custom FPGA in VHDL, soldered a few RAM sockets and various memory/storage/RAID controllers on and filled it with loads of nice cheap DDR2.

If you can really be bothered (and have some nice hardware modelling programs lying around - I like FPGA Advantage from Mentor) that is.....

That statement was based on the information given, I did not have an english article to read and see benchmarks. I thought it was just as fast as the original.

I should have just edited my first post to my second.

You still aren't following....

The speeds in inconsequential. RAID0 increases access times. This will slow the disk down for a wide range of applications (as in ways it is applied, not pieces of software).
